Origins of the Kings nickname?

Been searching but all I can find is that Jack Kent Cooke decided to name them the Kings.

Any more info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In the timeline on the Kings' official site, it states:

Wanting his new hockey club to take on an air of royalty, Cooke named his team the “Kings†and was part of six new teams that would double the size of the NHL from the “Original Six†franchises to 12 teams, starting with the 1967-68 season.​

The timeline also goes on to say that Jack Kent Cooke personally came up with nicknames for his his players to compensate for the lack of a star player.

It also had to do with the fact that he wanted to keep the "regal blue" (which is actually purple) and gold colors of the Lakers, I believe, as he also owned them at the time.
