He bounced around at 18, spent half the year in the AHL. then had a nice second half, 46g 10-17 27, but didn't improve his next season.

Konency
19: 70g 11-17 28

Pastrnak broke out at age 20.
We'll see what Konency does this year with a regular shift.

You say that like it's a negative mark on his resume or something. He went PPG+ in the AHL as an 18 year old kid playing on North American ice for the first time. Do you realize how impressive that is? It's hard for 22 year old 1st round picks to put up those kinds of numbers let alone an 18 year old kid. Boston had no intentions of playing him in the NHL at 18, but he was so good he forced their hand. Among 18 year olds that played in at least half of their NHL team's games, he had the 8th best PPG over the last 20 seasons.

As for him "not improving" the following season, I'm sure playing 28 seconds a game on the powerplay had something to do with that (Konecny played 1:41/game as a reference). His goal scoring rate went up, but the assist rate dropped off. Playing more difficult minutes most likely played a role as well.

It's tough for me to envision Konecny ever posting a 70 point season, let alone one as a 20 year old.

Pastrnak is also a great possession player, something Konecny hasn't quite exhibited yet in the NHL.

Let's do some next level thinking next time and not just point to raw stats.

The problem here is that Hakstol never said anything good about Pastrnak.

The Hak Effect means that Vandevelde isn't that bad, Pastrnak isn't that good.
