Carolina is an alternate dimension when it comes to players. They never regress or develop while playing here, as far as the general hockey world is concerned.

Remember the Commodore/Stillman for Corvo/Eaves deal? Ottawa fans were absolutely sure they were getting the Commodore from the Cup year, despite just about every Canes fan telling them that he had regressed heavily. That he spent his time putting himself out of position and that the fanbase had actually generated a PPG (penalty per game) mark for him alone.

It's also why Jordan Staal is consistently referred to as a "3rd line center" or why Skinner is only known for his concussions.

Rissanen has shown me nothing that indicates he is anything other than AHL fodder. He is a jack of all trades that is below average in every aspect of the game. His decision making is slow, his skating is poor, he seems only a hair better than Bellemore on offense, and I don't think he is very physical. Sucks that he got injured because this may have been his only shot and now he doesn't have a chance to improve.

I disagree only with the bolded. His hits on the boards in the defensive zone result in the puck carrier being knocked down. Several times I've seen him check a guy off his feet and efficiently take the loose puck. He's still got a lot of work to do, but that's a useful skill for a bottom pairing defenseman. I've seen someone here (maybe Dave?) call him potentially the next Wallin, and I think that's a good representation of his ceiling; although he likely won't reach it he's got that surprising and above average strength on the boards that can make up for deficiencies in everything else, as long as he at least improves his overall game to a reasonable level.

Given that the Capitals signed Justin Peters in FA last year and the Canadiens, Bowman, I am inclined to believe that this is not the case.

I like what I've seen of Jordan. Stick him on the bottom pairing and see if he can get even better.

Murphy looks like dynamite in the offensive zone. In the defensive zone, he looks small and scared. Many of his mistakes are more miscue related than size related. He's worth keeping, don't know why people want to trade him.

How many games did you give him before deciding all this? Bellemore looks like warmed up horse turds at times, and we give him a chance to develop.

I'd bank on the top 4 next year being some combination of Faulk, Hainsey, Liles, and Murphy with Jordan being on the bottom pairing. I think they'll sign a 2nd/3rd pairing tweener at best. Maybe Gleason also. They desperately wanted to cut salary, and they sort of did that. Short of making a trade (which I don't think they will), IMO we'll probably see a similar offseason to last year.

They're picking the wrong year to tank if they have Murphy in the top 4 (not to say the rest of those options are much better).

On the rare occasion that we dress a player like this, it serves to highlight just how small and non-physical the rest of this team is.

I mean, if not for injuries we would be dressing Liles AND Hillen AND Murphy. Lord have mercy.

I don't know what he'll end up doing, but I think Chip said Francis indicated that he would address the defense in the offseason. Have to imagine he's going to try and shuffle something around some way.

I assume 'him' is Rissanen? 'Bout 6 games. It's not his final ceiling, just how he looks out there right now. And I'll say again, it sucks that he is injured because he may not get a chance to show improvement in his game.

When Francis was asked about promising players in Charlotte during one of the intermission interviews with Forslund last week, he named off almost the entire Checkers' roster. Didn't mention Levi IIRC
