This is a very good top 6 player with a winning pedigree. Will be curious to see what he gets because he could set the market for a lot of players who consistently produce but aren't quite at star level in the next couple years.

If Tampa didnt have to sign Sergachev, Cirelli, Cernak, Colton, and Foote next offseason.. this deal probably would have already been done. With only 24m in cap space next season, and those 5 taking up probably close to 20m of that, Its the right move. Hagel can now get top 6 time in a scoring role, Killorn can be with his dock talk buddy Stamkos, guys like Koepke and Barre-Boulet can get their shots at camp to get the open 3rd line spot
We have like 31 million in space next summer seabrook is LTIR

If he just wants want big money and cup isnt a priority how about Seattle ? Lots of cap spce and looking to spend money
Funny you should say that. Seattle took Gourde over Palat in expansion last year. Yes Gourde had more term but he was paid more and he certainly isn’t better.

Not sure what you mean by your comments. What does being unsigned have to do with tampering?
The point is that any unsigned highly coveted UFA at this point (less than 4 days from the opening of the market) is getting nudge nudge wink wink 'offers' from other teams. Palat's agent has a good idea who wants his client by now and he can use that in talks with Tampa. This 'tampering' is why every year we get dozens of signings within 10 minutes of the market opening.

Everyone does it, so what is the big deal?

Friedman has linked NJ and Seattle to Palat. That was of course before the Gaudreau news so I’d guess Calgary is in also.

Palat is a proven winner, and exactly what the Pens need. Hope we can make space in the next few hours to put in an offer for him.

Yzerman drafted him, Yzerman negotiated his last contract, Lalonde coached him, and Detroit has many czech friends to join with.

Welcome to Red Wings. Palat is gonna mentor Wings young core to a winner.

if you are gonna get him you better be a playoff team. palat in the regular season can disappear for months and just isn’t all that useful

What?! Have you watched any hockey from this man over the last decade? He is a hot FA commodity because hea a f***ing swiss army knife of a forward that does all the shit work in the corners that big names don't always like to do. He can play with anyone, he can play nearly anywhere. Does he give you big regular season numbers? No, not really, but you can't argue with the man producing in the playoffs when it matters. You'd like to see him hit that 20 goal mark but most of the time hes the security blanket for Cooper. There aren't a ton of guys that Coop will throw into every situation, but Palat is one of them.

If he walks, man, i'm gonna be sad. I get it, and someone will pay a premium for him, and i'm happy to see him get paid, but.... :(

Can the Wings fit in both him and Copp? Or is it a one or the other type thing?

Assume Copp gets $5.5 mil and Palat gets $6.5 mil we could easily fit both and not bad an eyelash. And that's including the up coming Dylan Larkin extension as well.
The Atlantic is going to be bonkers. Love the Wings rebuild and if Stevie Y signs these guys they'll be a lot better next year. Then the Sens are improving and the Leafs/Bolts/Panthers will be good. Going to be crazy.

When Stevie Y traded for Ville Husso and then signed him, That pretty much gave me an indication that he's going all in this year. Trying to make us more competitive and at least hopefully make us a bubble team.
