Hope he likes popcorn.

Honestly, good option for the #7. On stretches where Marincin is drowning (they'll happen), he's a good left handed giant option to come in and calm the waters.

But in the last week:

Nikita Nikitin: 6'4, 223
Leon Draisaitl: 6'2, 210
Teddy Purcell: 6'3, 200
Mark Fayne: 6'4, 210
Benoit Pouliot: 6'3, 199
Keith Aulie: 6'6, 228

Mark Spector is smiling.

Not a bad 7, from SK, and is huge. Would be better if he was a RHS, but what can you do?

Keeps our young D prospects out of the PB because you need the bodies. Might not even make the team out of camp though.

Sounds like the Mark Fraser replacement

Why would we want him to be a rightie? We've got Petry, Fayne, and Schultz who are right shots, and Nikitin and Ference who can play the right side.

Nice, smart move, could end up being a useful #6 for us at $800k, or worst case he sees lots of press box and can throw a big guy in now and then. I, for one, am really liking what MacT has done so far this off-season. If he can nab a 2nd line Center anywhere I'd have to say he nailed it as much as he possibly could have (although, I am skeptical to the dollar amount thrown Nikitan's way).

Cheap low risk move is better than an expensive low risk move...

At least if he turns out to be Cam Barker they aren't spending millions on him.

Apparently, our pro scout Sutter was really really high on him. He was the reason for the acquisition.

Wish every UFA signing had a pro scout's name attached to it... Just so we'd know who to blame for the last 4-5 years.

Great move on a number of levels.

Puts downward pressure on what Schultz and/or Petry can ask for.

Creates real competition for the 6/7D spots. Only room for two of Nurse/Marincin/Aulie/Klefbom (assuming Schultz and Petry are both signed). Whoever earns those two spots power to them.

Even if Schultz and/or Petry get better RFA offers elsewhere the return will be decent.

Or traded...

They've said their goal is to have guys like Klefbom and Nurse as #1s in safer leagues.

It's why they're overpaying for a guy like Nikitin for two years. They're signing stop gaps so Klefbom and Nurse can develop, not so they can trade them away.

I like it, this means that Aulie is our 7th and there's one spot in the top six for Marincin/Klefbom/Nurse. More then likely Marincin gets that spot, Klef goes to the AHL to play 24 minutes/game, Nurse gets a few NHL games before going back to junior.
