If a player is retiring at 24 they weren't much of a prospect anyways.

Seems like a veiled bash thread tbh.

Both were UFAs signings. Oilers are pretty stocked for goalie prospects right now, especially with Skinner looking like a complete stud. Mantha isnt retiring, all inidcations is that hes looking to come back. He was a solid prospect but not one anyone was banking on being a surefire NHLer

1) I'm an Oiler fan, not a bash thread
2) You don't know the details of his retirement. It's just a thank you family/friends post on twitter.
3) He backed up Bakersfield last year and would likely have started this year.

You completely misread my post on all accounts.

The Oilers lack cheap depth, I'd consider Mantha exactly that in the coming years.

You should have posted this in the Prospects forum.

Every time I see this gif I'm in awe of the Rock's control over his facial expressions.

The thread is fine here. Player retirements are NHL News, especially weird ones that involve sudden blindness.

Just to clarify, Mantha isn't retiring.

He's lost the straight ahead vision in the eye, but has peripheral vision. Unlikely that he makes it back, but he wants to try.

Blood clot in Mantha’s case, complete freak accident.

Ellis regressed and was likely told by management he wouldn’t be getting a contract with Starrett performing well in the ECHL and Wells/Skinner both able to turn pro.

They were C level prospects with an outside chance of making it. Mantha was a good signing last summer who didn't have an awful rookie season. Some people thought Ellis should've made the team over Brossoit at the start of the year and definitely should've gotten a look this year. That one is definitely surprising.

Meh. AHL calibre prospects.

Wells and Skinner are far better goaltender prospects anyways. Plus goalies are the most unpredictable.

Err, a 24 Y/O backup in the AHL likely isn't ever going to make the NHL. Plus with Talbot, Koskinen, and Montoya ahead of him on the depth chart; and Starrett, Wells, and Skinner all looking to move up, he is the odd man out. Same story for Brossoit.

As an oiler fan I slightly disagree

will start with Mantha--he was highly chased coming out of JR and some scouting reports compared him to Matt Greene--he was in his first year pro when this happened

Ellis being a goalie falls into the category of goalies developing later.

While he is 24 he was projected to become the back up with the Oilers

Biggest complaint and or problem with the oilers is depth

this was the depth Chia pet has been trying to build

as an oiler fan it is a small hit against the depth we are trying to build
