Firing Kruger ruined yakupov imo 17 goals to lead the team in scoring as rookie in the lock out year was impressive
Comas and periods can be very useful at times in order to get people to have a clear understanding as to what you've written.

Yakupov for many was better than Nuge in his draft -1 season and could have been drafted before Nuge if he was eligible. His first NHL season was also very impressive when he should have won the Calder.

Done in by the draft lottery. If they lose they are likely choosing between Ryan Murray and Alex Galchenyuk, Maybe Reilly or even Grigorenko but I think Grigs was drafted where he was supposed to go (just like Yak). But f they get a better player than Yak they might miss Connor so you have to accept that as something that led to a generational pick. Puljujarvi stings a bit more, because they already had McDavid and the Jacket's Finnish GM should have taken the Finnish star where he was supposed to go, leaving the Oil to choose between Dubois, Tkachuk and Sergachev.

One can say we were done in by the lottery draft in 2016 as well. We finished 2nd last and if there was no lottery we would have landed Laine.

The incompetence of the management and scouting staff has lasted quite a long time. I'll never forget being at the 1995 draft and the Oilers were up and everyone was chanting for Alberta boy Shane Doan and then who does this idiotic organization draft...STEVE KELLY! Reason I bring this up is because one of the names mentioned above had his number raised to the rafters in Arizona recently after scoring 402 goals in the NHL while the other finished with 9 career NHL goals. Let's not even talk about the fact that they (along with a few other teams) could have taken Edmonton native Jarome Iginla at the 6th pick, he had 63 goals (136pts) for Kamloops that year while Steve Kelly had 27 goals (101 pts) for Prince Albert.

Wasn't that a 41 game season?

and?
He led the team in goals that year as 18yo. The team had Hall, Ebs, Gagner and Nuge on it.
Maybe he brought in Russian water for the shortened season.
Point being half of a season isn't a full season and shouldn't be thought of as one. The fact he never even got close to replicating that half season with any of the numerous teams he played for should tell you something too.

not sure what your point is. Should we dismiss all his sub 60 game seasons as "not real seasons" as well?
Fact remains: Yak was not a bust at age 18. something happened after he became an Oiler. We did not develop him right.

So because Edmonton ruined him, he never had a chance as a 22,23,24 year old with other organizations?

My point is he was the leading scorer for half a season. That doesn't mean shit to me.
