While 3 trades were made within the last 24 hours the Oilers made 4 trades total leading up to the deadline.

Starting things off veteran winger Mike Knuble and a 2013 4th round pick were sent to Calgary for Bobby Butler, two 3rd round picks and $1,000,000. To replace some of the offense lost by trading Knuble the Oilers later traded for Cory Stillman. Heading to the Rangers was depth defenseman Nolan Baumgartner along with a 4th and 5th round draft pick.

Next up pending UFA Pavel Kubina was sent to the Devils for a 2nd and 4th round pick. With another hole to fill, this time on the blueline, Derek Morris was added in exchange for Jason Strudwick and prospect Peter Andersson.

In summary...

Out: Mike Knuble, Pavel Kubina, Jason Strudwick, Nolan Baumgartner, Peter Andersson, 2011 NJ 4th, 2011 STL 5th, 2013 EDM 4th
In: Cory Stillman, Derek Morris, Bobby Butler, 2011 CBJ 2nd, 2011 CBJ 3rd, 2011 NJ 4th, 2012 PIT 3rd, $1,000,000

Continuing a trend started last year, the Oilers took a step back talent wise, added some key day 1 draft picks to help stock a bare prospect cupboard, while still remaining competitive in the playoff race.

Not included in the deadline additions are two players claimed off the waiver wire that now find regular spots in the lineup, defenseman Jay McKee and utility forward Cody McCormick.

Line combinations aren't set in stone yet but it's projected that Stillman and Morris will likely step right into the spots formerly held by Knuble and Kubina.

Nolan - Stastny - Stillman
Malone - Arnott - Hemsky
Chimera - Oshie - Moen
McCormick - Goc - Petersen

Seabrook - Suter
Stuart - Morris
McKee - Huskins

Giguere
Gustavsson

Will this group be good enough to grab one of the last playoff spots in the West? I know Nick sure hopes it's not! :handclap:
