On defense maybe, our team now has better players then that one did.

This is BS, imo. Just looking at the names, and thinking about how they were in their prime, sure Souray and Whitney look good. But both of those players wilted and haven't really performed well since. So I don't think that's very fair. Knowing how it turned out in a year or two, really shows that at least our d line up now has a tone of potential. Peckham, Strudwick, Arsene, Johnson... there's a reason why those names aren't mentioned anymore.

All of the defensemen in the current lineup (except Aulie) are NHL dmen. You can't say that about the old roster.

OT On a side note, I have a team signed canvas from late in the 2012/2013 season and there are only 6 players (Petry, Schultz, Eberle, RNH, Hall and Yakapov) left on the team out of the 20 dressed for that particular game and the few who were on IR or in the pressbox.
So basically in a year and a half they have changed all but 6 players on the team.

So in six years, we have added the following Edmonton drafted players: Marincin, Petry, Lander and Eberle. I'm not counting the first overalls because no skill was involved in making those picks.

Not great.

While I see your point by not including them... it dilutes your stat by not allowing the oilers all of the draft picks they had in those years. By saying 1st OV's don't count, does that mean 2nd, 3rd, 4th OV shouldn't count as well, if your team still chooses BPA and the picks they wanted were chosen before they had the chance? Doesn't work that way, IMO.

Management believed that 2009-10 team was going to make the playoffs and they paid to the cap for it. By contrast, management doesn't believe the current team is going to make the playoffs. Not sold on this team just yet.

Fair enough but you also shouldn't get full marks for them either.

Especially when your whole rebuild plan for several years was, 'suck really bad, draft good player'.
