The penguins definitely don't get bent here. They do okay on this trade

Yes they do, they downgrade dramatically and on defense to just get Puljujarvi or Yamamoto and the 10th pick. Kessel to Frolik is a monumental downgrade. At best, Hamilton isn't any better than a struggling Letang.

Oilers definitely reject that.

This kind of trade is unnecessary. And both the Pens and Oil give up too much.

Pens need a better goal scorer coming back than Frolik if we trade Kessel. I think a trade with the Canes for something around Skinner + makes sense for both clubs.

So Edmonton who has no cap space to spare gives up a bargain contract in Klefbom and 2 ELC contracts . Not to mention no team is giving up those assets for an often injured Letang .
Counter offer
Lucic , Klefbom and 10th OA for Kessel + Letang .
Break down
Lucic for Letang
10oa + Klefbom for Kessel

This is to show how far the value is off to the OP not to make a trade proposal for Pens fans . So hoping it doesn't offend Pens fans

Letang's worth way more than Lucic. Plodding 30 point wingers paid 6 million aren't worth much.

They’re both terrible though the Klefbom and Puljujarvi one is less terrible.

Not even close to realistic. Flames do pretty well though which is unsurprising.
It's pretty surprising. We're usually the ones that get boned in 3 way trades.

This is horrid. Letang, at his cap hit, performance this year, and usual 40 games missed due to injury, is not worth what is being suggested here. Calgary wins big time here overall though.

Some might say, they have negative value.

Letang certainly doesn't have negative value, that's absurd.

Letang has missed 40 games due to injury twice in his career. Once due to a stroke and once due to a herniated disk in his neck.

LOL I wish. Sparky at least try and make a proposal that is remotely fair for all sides. This is really bad for Edmonton.
I really don’t think it is. Over the last 3 years Letang has played 13 more games than Klefbom and accumulated 81 more points. He’s a bonified #1, who’s a big part of the leadership core that just won back to back cups and he rarely finishes outside the top 10 in defensive scoring. He’d be an excellent mentor and partner for not only Nurse but an entire young team. Puljujarvi hasn’t what the Oilers expected and Yamamoto is still a huge wildcard. To expect to get a defenseman the caliber of Letang, with out including a top prospect is absolutely absurd.

If the Oilers are sending out Klefbom + 10th oa + yamamoto and all they got was Letang? That’s a fail at the end of the day. We add salary and get an older and still injury prone defenceman. No doubt Letang scores more points but that’s a steep price. Pretty sure the Oilers could get better with that package.

lmao I wonder if the OP is a Flames fan they somehow downgrade a little on D while turning Frolik into a 90 pt forward.
