Maybe we’re just holding out on what to do until the playoffs are over?? :naughty:

*Sigh* I wish I could believe that/have typed that with a straight face….

I guess there is no rush to fire Reirden. Dude wont get another NHL job anytime soon. He can move in with Ron Hextall.

David Quinn looks and talks exactly like Mike Sullivan.

It would be extremely Penguins to bring in David Quinn as an assistant and then eventually fire Mike Sullivan only to replace him with.....Mike Sullivan.

The Circle of Life, as they say...

I genuinely do wonder what it would take to fire Sullivan. If the Pens are in a similar boat next year where they aren't where they want to be a few months in, can even Dubas/FSG ignore that?

Or are we are just gonna hear "well Sully did his best, it's not his fault, the team clearly just needs to enter a rebuild now"

Like these mfers would probably trade Malkin/Letang before firing Sully

I think he gets the full year

In year 2 of the extension, i think they can justify turning up the heat / eating the final year to year and a half of extension

No way he's gone a few months into a 3 year contract

They also might not fire him at all....

I was told by numerous people that FSG has deep pockets and would fire Sully if he sucks.

I saw this today on Lyle’s rumor site and was irrationally happy lol…

MIKE SULLIVAN TO THE DEVILS?

TORONTO STAR: Nick Kypreos reports rumors that Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan could leave Pittsburgh to become the New Jersey Devils’ new bench boss. Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald is a close friend of Sullivan’s. “It could simply come down to Sullivan’s lack of confidence in GM (Kyle) Dubas’ ability to contend anytime soon.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: No indication out of Pittsburgh or New Jersey thus far suggesting Sullivan is ready to bolt from the Penguins to join the Devils. There’s also no hint that the Pens intend to fire Sullivan, something that likely would’ve happened by now if there was any unhappiness over his coaching.

I'll be in my bunk. No calls.

Yeah, yeah - it's SULLIVAN's "lack of confidence" in Dubas that's the issue here.

I know it's from the hockey news but would be wonderful news if it came true.

PITTSBURGH – Heading into another long offseason, the heat surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins and their coaching staff has gotten hotter. Many want to see a complete overhaul of the group, including head coach Mike Sullivan.
Despite two straight playoff absences, it’s unlikely Sullivan will get handed walking papers any time soon. His assistants, however, are a different story.

Associate coach Todd Reirden and assistant Mike Vellucci will soon be free-agent coaches, assuming the Penguins do not extend them. Could they find their way to new teams this summer?

With the San Jose Sharks now in the market for a new head coach following the departure of David Quinn, the possibility of Todd Reirden stepping into this role seems to align perfectly with the team's requirements.

Sharks assistant coaches aren’t being moved, and they are believed to be looking for someone with previous professional hockey experience. Reirden has brief experience as a head coach after leading the Washington Capitals for two seasons.

In both years, Reirden helped lead the Capitals as the top team in the Metropolitan Division.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the Sharks might also be looking for someone with a sound mind for defense. Say what you will about the Penguins defense this year, but when Reirden is at his best, so too was their blue line.

Reirden is a defensive specialist who has built great relationships with some of the Penguins’ top defenders in recent memory. It was thanks to Reirden the Penguins got the best out of Cody Ceci in 2021. Or who has helped shape Marcus Pettersson into the defensive leader he is today.

Taking it back a few years in Reirden's first stint in Pittsburgh, Matt Niskanen earned Norris Trophy votes in 2014.

The Sharks are in the midst of a serious rebuild and might only be looking for something temporary while the rest of the team takes shape. This would fit Reirden, again, as he may have head coaching experience, but may be a perfect transition bench boss.
