Wonder if GB will call Steve Smith out of retirement. He'd probably be a top pair defenseman on the team even at his current age. :sarcasm:

All joking aside D is a major issue for GB moving forward...

David Phillips
Ben O'Connor
Mark Richardson

are 3 of the best 4-5 homegrown Dmen that Britain has ever produced... they were all born in 1986-88. Probably all ~AHL level at their best. (O'Connor still is) All are very much close to retirement... and Nathanael Halbert is the only guy we have under 30 who is that level.

The Saxons always had trouble defending.

We also had two of our most talented ~10 forwards in the country die last year...

Mike Hammond - age 33, GB 2C
Alex Graham - age 20... would have made his GB senior debut in the last year... 2nd most talented player GB has produced in last 15 years after Liam Kirk.

Yeah. They just aren’t very good anymore.
U18s are currently fighting for promotion to top division, for what its worth. Took Germany to OT the other day and it could have gone either way, tbh. Not guaranteed Germany is promoted just yet, but looking likely (fingers crossed Denmark pull the upset and beat them in regulation). That said, some of the best players on Ukraine's U18 should be back on the U18 team next year, so its possible for 2026 for the U18 to be in the top division.

All that said, the senior team have been stuck in D1B for a long time, a better goalie than Dyachenko (strong by UHL standards but hit or miss at intl level) and/or less boneheaded penalties against their top rival over the past 2 years and they probably would be D1A.

If the competition is anything like last year they should walk away with the trophy.

You’re gonna see some better teams because guys who want to play in the Olympics and aren’t, like, the best players in the league, are gonna be expected to show up.
