I love Shattenkirk and think he's a terrific player to have on multiple levels, but with one more year left before he'll be looking for a long-term deal and our D crowding in short order, I can't imagine he'll be worth the immense cost.
Eriksson as a free agent wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I can see him being a reliable two-way player well into his late 30s along the lines of Hossa, Sharp, or Iginla. He'd be a hefty salary, but he offers a lot to a lineup even when he's not scoring. Guys like Okposo or Simmonds, for example, are tough to put up with when not performing, but that's not an issue with someone like Eriksson, so even if he were to decline, I don't think he's a guy who would ever become a headache despite having a UFA contract. That said, it's UFA, so someone could easily go crazy on him, and I'd have to retract that comment.
