So is Stamkos even a remote possibility? Assuming a non-record breaking contract...which might not be possible.

Another guy I'd love to have for much cheaper is Andrew Shaw

I doubt it, esp with the salary he is demanding. Many on here agree that he might sign with the Leafs. They can really speed up the rebuild now with Matthews + Stamkos (although I think Stamkos doesn't deserve the salary).

I feel like Shaw is a guy everyone can agree with. Decent cap hit and he can make a quick impact without effecting the rebuild process.

I want no parts of Shaw. He is not that good and his contract will be higher than it should be. If we are going after someone, I'd prefer a little more skill than what he brings. There is way too much hype around this guy lately!

Agreed.

I'm on the short term Backes or Brouwer train...for 1-3 years. Unfortunately they're both having really good playoffs and driving up their prices/terms :help:

Yeah, I don't think they're going to want to let Backes go after the Playoffs he's having. If they do, probably too rich for our blood.
I'm fine if we do nothing or if there is a trade for Simmonds that's a no brainer. I'd really like to see Leier get a taste and some more development from Laughton/Cousins.

I cant see us being big players in the trade market or free agency this year. Although i would like to see them go after Ladd

My 2 priorities are:
Re-sign Gudas and Schenn to reasonable contracts.
Trade Read and Streit.

Provorov and Leier should both be able to make the team

I like the Colin White + 12 + another pick rumor (I think I read here) for Simmonds. Would hurt team chemistry and performance in the short run but likely give us 2 top 6 prospects to coincide with the young D

It wasn't a rumor, just one user's proposal, as far as I know.

Not sure if this was posted earlier or not but looks like the Shattenkirk rumors are starting again.

I think were trading for the RHD that hexy is talking about. Which one I don't know. We need right handed d so we don't have to watch Ghost have to make moves at the bluline to get a shot off or Streit who has a great shot dump it back in the corner because he's left playing the right side. So stupid.

Yes....was just an offer from an Ottawa fan in the Simmonds trade thread about a month ago.

As for those rumors about Loui and Shattinkirk, I hope not. Loui will be 31 this summer and want a 4-6 year retirement deal. Shattinkirk will just be too expensive to acquire.

I think our bigger moves come next summer, not this one.

I can't imagine Ottawa gives up that much for Simmonds. White is a phenomenal prospect, and that 12th pick should be quite good as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to make that trade though.

These things pop up every offseason. Eventually the national guys will realize it's Hextall, not Clarke anymore.

Seems like the Blues could use a RW since Brouwer and Backes could both be leaving. Shattenkirk's a better player than Simmonds. Would a one for one swap work?

I love Shattenkirk and think he's a terrific player to have on multiple levels, but with one more year left before he'll be looking for a long-term deal and our D crowding in short order, I can't imagine he'll be worth the immense cost.

Eriksson as a free agent wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I can see him being a reliable two-way player well into his late 30s along the lines of Hossa, Sharp, or Iginla. He'd be a hefty salary, but he offers a lot to a lineup even when he's not scoring. Guys like Okposo or Simmonds, for example, are tough to put up with when not performing, but that's not an issue with someone like Eriksson, so even if he were to decline, I don't think he's a guy who would ever become a headache despite having a UFA contract. That said, it's UFA, so someone could easily go crazy on him, and I'd have to retract that comment.

Not for us. Shattenkirk is going to be a UFA demanding $8m per season.

Favorite part of the offseason. When rumors start popping up.

One thing I don't see us doing though is trading Simmonds or Schenn for a guy who can walk in one year. It would be a different story if Shatty was a RFA then I could see that. I would look at Trouba up in Winnipeg if I am throwing Simmonds and Schenn out there. I don't think Simmonds will be traded though because of what he brings.

Lou Eriksson is a player I actually would be interested in. Get him to sign a 4 year deal hopefully and it takes him to 35. He has produced very well for a player late in the 20's and early 30's. He would immediately help with scoring depth as well.

Backes is a player I would love to have also. He might not demand as much but he could be a big grab for a team like us. Him slotting in as our 3rd line center would help create match-ups all over the ice for the top two lines that are actually favorable. Brouwer is another one but I would prefer Backes to him.

Shatty is great and everything but I would look to deal more of futures for him like 1st rounder+Laughton/prospect+2nd/3rd rounder for him. I don't think it makes much sense in trading a forward for a dman because we are digging out of one hole right into another.

I'm not very interested in acquiring Shattenkirk, just spitballin. I really don't see how the Flyers would make it work if the rumor is true.

Adding Eriksson would give us a very nice top six and allow for Raffl to slide down to the third line, also adds some needed size.

Shattenkirk...I'm a bit hesitant due to him being a UFA in 2017, and will be quite pricey to keep, though should they make a move for him I have no doubt they'd extend him. He will also likely cost Simmonds (who is signed to a cap friendly deal), or Sanheim/Morin +, and that might be hard to swallow.
