With the recent run the Flyers are on and the lack of elite teams in the East, they could put themselves in a position to contend starting this year. IMO, all that’s really missing from this roster is a top 3 defenseman and a legit 2nd center.

They could shed salary and make room if needed by moving Filppula or attaching an asset to A-Mac/Weise.

OEL for Radko Gudas+German Rubtsov+Mark Friedman+2018 1st

———————————

Potential fits for a 2nd line center could be Granlund, Anisimov, RNH, and O’Reilly. All four of those teams could use a young prospect on defense with top 4 potential and the Flyers have several. Also hold a lot of draft picks/prospects that could be included in deals.

Doing this would allow them to go for it while Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds have 2+ prime years left. They have the flexibility moving forward to make this work financially.

Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
Raffl-RNH/Granlund/ROR-Voracek
Weal-Patrick-Simmonds

Provorov-Ghost
Hagg-OEL
Sanheim/Morin-Myers/A-Mac

Elliott/Neuvirth

Hart takes over late next year or in 2019-2020.

I don't think that's enough upside for ARI to move on from OEL. Admittedly I don't know who Mark Friedman is, I would assume that you guys are going to have to put a little bit more of a significant piece than one of the 3 players there although Rubstov is a pretty good prospect.

What's OEL's extension with Philadelphia look like?

Realistically they could afford to pay him 8-9 million if that’s really what it would take on the open market. Outside of Giroux, Voracek, and Provorov, nobody should be making more than 5 million per year in 2-3 years. They’ll have a number of ELC’s and bridge contracts and shouldn’t be spending more than 4-5 million on goaltending for the foreseeable future.

I’m of the belief they could get him for under 8 for 7-8 years though if they were able to acquire him now and let him get familiar with the franchise.

That package isn’t close to enough for OEL and, honestly, I don’t see the Flyers paying the price for him.

I’m sure Hextall would rather be patient with what he already has coming together at D.

He could afford a bigger package if that’s the direction he wanted to go in. If they were to lock up OEL, they’d have all of their core players except for Simmonds locked up for 4-5 years. They have more than enough depth in the farm system and will be adding more to that this offseason. There isn’t enough room for all the prospects Hextall has acquired.

Frost, Rubstov, Voroboyev, Myers, Sanheim, and Morin should all be in the NHL fulltime by 2020. There isn’t room for them, let alone the other 4-5 prospects with top 9 potential.

They’d still be in a position to be contenders for the next 5-7 years, this would just open their window 2 years earlier.

I think a lot of teams can and will beat that package.

That’s absolutely true. The proposal was just to get a discussion going. That being said, the Flyers could afford to outbid anyone with the forwards/defensemen in their farm system and two 2018 1st round picks.

Absolutely. If Philly wanted to make some noise by moving some of their D prospects, the sky is the limit.

Bad for Arizona. I guess Philly does have the pieces to get him out of Arizona, but not with that package. Start with Sanheim, first then move from there.

Yeah, NO ! Flyers don't need a mediocre defensive defenseman, and they surely have enough offensively talented defenseman. People can dress up OEL all they want, he's accomplished what again as far as DEFENSE goes ? Minus 61 too date between last year and this current year and don't want to hear about how bad the team is defensively. Flyers arent exactly great at team defense and all their defenseman are plus players, Even a ridiculed MacDonald. Arizona can keep OEL as far as I'm concerned

Chayka will want to package of this value: Couturier, young Dman (Sanheim/Hagg?) and a conditional 2019 1st based on OEL resigning. Coyotes could add Richardson.

Know that's a big ask...but that's what Chayka would be holding out for...........

Sakic held out for what he wanted for Duchene, but that ask for OEL from Philly is insane, even in light of the Hall for Larsson trade. Thanks for being measured in the response, but that would be a knee jerk reaction pass from Philly.

Couturier is top 20 in scoring. . In no way will OEL get someone that high in the scoring race especially when he is on a great contract for 4.5 more years. AND then expect to keep adding to that...not going to happen. He can ask for that, but we won't get near that.

Personally, I hope OEL re-signs and helps AZ out of the basement with the help of all their good young prospects/players.

Leaf ask has been Marner (+), this is significantly under valued.

Arizona has zero need for Gudas. If I'm Arizona, I want more for OEL than that.

Arizona would have to add big to OEL in order to get Couturier...
