That's nothing new. People expect generally inflated shot totals and correspondingly lower shooting % to some degree. But it's a pretty extreme degree on both ends.

Edmonton Oilers are 2nd in Even Strength GF/GA ratio in the league when they've been bottom 2 to 5 since 2009 even with an ES beast like Hall. This is what is called the McDavid effect.

And the Larsson effect (and other effects). McDavid effect can't drive down GA when he isn't on the ice.

I heard a fun stat yesterday after the Rangers game.

The Rangers last season had 30 breakaways in 82 games. So far this season they already have 13 breakaways in 9 games. I only remember them scoring on 3 or 4 though.
