Do MLB teams have to spend a minimum each season on salaries?

Oakland isn't going to be competitive next season, so why not just pay someone the league minimum, and save your owner 6 million or so?

There was just a lockout over the owners cheaping out on players that almost derailed the start of the season, you need to atleast pretend you're trying to compete.

it's not like the A's have to worry about how much money they're spending

7 mil a year is higher than expected for the A's to give out, but this is your typical A's signing who they'll most likely trade at the deadline

In a vacuum? Sure?

They should be spending triple their payroll right now (and they very much could!), so if the argument is that they should have instead signed Trea Turner then I agree.
