Your implication (whether intended or not) is that the city of Oakland is at fault for why the Warriors and Raiders left, when that simply isn’t true. Neither ever intended on staying.

City politics have been a pain for the A’s, but their scenario is completely different than those other teams.

Oakland is absolutely the problem. Cities just don't lose sports teams every year. You even said the city was the problem in the post...

They aren’t the only issue here. And lumping the A’s in with the Raiders and Warriors is just lazy. Neither of them ever negotiated in good faith with the city of Oakland. In act, the city is still paying for stupid ass mount Davis for the Raiders, all while Bowl-Cut Mark has another stupid city on the hook for another shitty stadium. The Warriors didn’t actually start wearing ANYTHING with the word Oakland on it until they moved to SF and it became cool. Can you honestly say with a straight face that either of their scenarios is similar to a team like the A’s, who are actually doing tangible things to try and stay??

A’s and Mlb are trying to get the city board to act quicker because they want a decision now and the city has to balance out the needs of their constituents. Both sides are the issue here, it isn’t mutually exclusive.

The Athletics want the City of Oakland to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades for the Howard Terminal project. The City won't receive enough additional tax revenue from the project to pay that off - we're talking centuries to make this deal break even for Oakland from a financial perspective.

If the Port of Oakland was derelict and the rail lines were located elsewhere, maybe this would work out, but the more I read about it, the more I think Howard Terminal is a bad deal for Oakland. The A's should stay on the Coliseum grounds and build a new stadium, plus a mixed-use housing/shopping/restaurant development, there.

Mark Davis has no money to privately fund stadium, Warriors wanted to be in San Francisco. Simple as.

MLB has made it clear that the coliseum site is no longer on the table for whatever reason
Just move them to SJ, and be done with it.

I know the Giants would put a stop to that, but 'member how the A's helped them out and the Giants didn't move to TB; time for SF to pay them back...everyone wins.
they tried about a decade ago and the league stopped it. don't see that changing under manfred

Yep. The A’s stadium is only 8% of the total development package. The owners are trying to take advantage of a city that just lost 2 teams that never intended on staying.

That’s the only way those assholes even have territorial rights. According to previous owner Haas the Giants were supposed to give those rights back if they stayed in the SF area.

I mean, looking at his haircut is the way to tell he isnt super rich.

Hope the A's can stay at the Coliseum if this Howard Terminal is as bad for the city as it seems.

Quid Pro Clowe ,, Oakland does acknowledge that the stadium is a dump and not fit for continued use ,, correct?

I mean reporters , fans , etc have said for years how bad of shape it is in (Was it not Oakland in which cups were taped to ceiling to catch leaking water?)

From A's POV there is no longer a viable option to stay in Oakland without new stadium longterm so searching out potential options (Vegas , Charlotte) is more then reasonable course to take

The A's have a good option for a new stadium (the Coliseum site - start a new park in one of the parking lots or rip down the Arena and start building there - there have been plenty of stadiums built in the last twenty years that are partially constructed and then finished during the offseason on the footprint of the prior park), they're just trying to get a ton of valuable real estate from the City and County. They've been playing the relocation game for twenty years, dangling it as a threat over Oakland over and over again.

A stadium, parking, and high-density mixed-use would all fit on the existing Coliseum site, with a direct BART connection and easy highway access. The big problem (for the A's) is that there isn't as much valuable real estate around the Coliseum site.

Yeah, all the teams in Oakland leaving is just pure coincidence. Do you think the raiders are not wanting to stay in Las Vegas or are negotiating in bad faith? Hmm wonder what's different

the coliseum site is not an option according to MLB

MLB wants A's to explore relocating from Oakland

The Athletics' lease at RingCentral Coliseum runs through 2024. Rebuilding at the coliseum site, seen by some as a possibility, "is not a viable option for the future vision of baseball," the league said in a statement.

"The Oakland Coliseum site is not a viable option for the future vision of baseball. We have instructed the Athletics to begin to explore other markets while they continue to pursue a waterfront ballpark in Oakland. The Athletics need a new ballpark to remain competitive, so it is now in our best interest to also consider other markets."

Raiders have moved 4 times since the 80’s. They aren’t loyal to Oakland or any city. They just take this highest bid and leave a mess behind.

The Warriors had been wanting to move to SF for years. Everyone knows this.

Neither of their situations compare to the A’s, which is a threat for action on existing plans.

MLB is going to bat for the A's trying to secure Howard Terminal. It's a power play, not a realistic assessment of the quality of the Coliseum site.
Exactly. The coliseum location isn’t viable because it’s not a potential cash now, not because it doesn’t work practically.

MLB also thinks one of the best ways to draw younger fans in is to put a runner on 2nd starting in the 10th inning; their judgment in matters is questionable at best.

Yeah, the league has wanted to move the team out of the area for a decade at least. The ownership doesn’t really want to leave the area.

If Fisher can’t get it done he needs to sell the team locally to someone who can privately finance even more. There are plenty of groups willing to buy them and keep them local, according to those in the know.

f*** Selig, Manfred and the entire league.

Again, cities dont just keep losing teams. If you want to pretend that Oakland doesn't have any trouble keeping teams then keep thinking it

A city the size of Oakland that's 34% White cannot support an MLB franchise-especially with the Giants just across the Bay.

There was a mayor like 15 years ago or something that was told by MLB that whenever they got a team it would be in the AL. Of course at the time baseball was talking about contraction so I don't know how that worked
