What sort of plan could they possibly have for Tampa which would make financial sense for Tampa (the city?)

It’s just pressure to build a stadium, “or else.” Everyone and their dog knows what the Rays are really doing. It’s sending a message to municipal authorities in the Tampa area that Montreal is a serious threat for relocation because they’re ready to move ahead on a split franchise.

It’s looking like Tampa doesn’t have much time left to solve this issue.

Per local news, MiLB Las Vegas Aviators STH and others around the valley sent survey about potential support of MLB franchise, pricing desired, preferred seat location, etc.

VGK became THE Vegas valley home team with their great response to the October 1 tragedy.

The team took the lead in reaching out to victims/families, first responders (police, fire, paramedics) and medicals, supporting blood donors.

The local boy (former ECHL Wrangler, married local girl), defacto captain Deryk Engelland, addressed the fans (in attendance, and watching) before the first home game and hit just the right note.

NFL Raiders -- some support, but folks still wear/follow their favorite team.

Montreal won't be a serious threat until there is a 100% confirmed plan for a new stadium. Just like Rams to LA wasn't 100% going to happen until Kroenke bought the land and confirmed plans to build a stadium.

NHL was smart to get into Vegas and capture the hearts of the fans as their first love.

That being said, the market is starting to look awfully crowded.

If the NBA expands to Seattle I am almost certain they will add a 32nd team to Las Vegas to counter that.

I had a feeling as soon as one major league opened up shop, the rest would follow. Especially since local governments seem eager to help pay for new stadiums, or in the case of T Mobile Arena, paid for privately.

A’s put in offer on potential Las Vegas ballpark site

Athletics put in bid on potential stadium site. Sounds like the move is almost certain to LV. Brass planning trips to LV 1-2 times a month.

Stadium location could be announced in (early) 2022.

Really thinking they end up off strip. Seems the only viable spot on the strip is the empty lot between Fashion Show and Resorts World.

Too bad Station is building a casino in it because there's a huge open lot at 215 and Durango that would've been a great spot. Tons of space and right near the 15/215 interchange

Station has land around the valley for future building. (And they still haven't opened Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho nor Texas Station)

Doesn't help that they are a circus.

And if A's are going to have same inept, cheap ownership season ticket base in Vegas is gonna dry up quick.

Given that some players may see a 20%-33% increase in their contract due to lack of state income tax, Athletics in Las Vegas may be able to get some good/better free agents at "decent" price.

So if this lockout goes long I can see it being the final nail in Tampa's coffin - and in a weird twist the MLB returns to Montreal. It's like the reverse of the 1994 strike but instead of killing interest in Montreal it's returning a team back.

Until there is an actual stadium plan that can legitimately happen, I don’t see Montreal getting a team

Apparently they do have a stadium plan with the support of government though it will be mostly private financed. The ownership group has land in the peel basin. They are ready it's almost like MLB is the hurdle now. This two city scenario between Tampa and Montreal is a ploy for Sternberg to get a new stadium and if that does not happen at the same time Montreal will start building a stadium for a full time move. If Tampa gets a stadium then I think expansion will happen.
