I know the Overage-player deadline is Jan. 8 (noon)
but OA's that are not traded for what ever reason @ the deadline, can another OHL team that has room for a 3rd OA spot pick them up once the deadline passes?

Since all teams have to cut back to 3 protected overagers by Noon Jan 8 and thereby releasing any excess, the 24-hour window between noon 1/8 and noon 1/9 is the deadline for free agent OAs to be protected by teams who have protected less than 3 OAs.

So noon 1/8 is the deadline for both:
A. Cutting back to 3 protected OAs
B. Any trades involving OAs

And noon 1/9 is the deadline to add any released/free agent overagers to get up to 3 if you are currently below it.

Then the rosters freeze. So if you have an OA in the pros that you'd like to keep protected, then you have to use one of your 3 protected spots on him by noon 1/8. Otherwise -- if he's not one of the 3 protected -- another team can add him to their protected list in that noon 1/8-noon 1/9 24-hour window.
