New Haven selects a player who was 20 times top-5 in NHL scoring as a Red Wing (and so his later WHA exploits in his forties is beside the point): Gordie Howe

toasting-gordie-howe-1106170-TwoByOne.jpg

Gary Ronberg said:
The aura of health is obvious even to those in the stands, but what they go to see is Howe the goal scorer, flicking his huge wrists with a silken strength, a mongoose quickness... Howe's wrist shot—he doesn't waste time winding up—sizzles in at 114.2 mph. It is the game's most accurate shot, and Howe, the only truly ambidextrous NHL player, can score with equal facility from either side of his body... He is so strong that when he shoots, that handle bends like a banana."

Thanks to 87 for a great idea. We don't really share the same opinions about most things but this an awesome idea and good thing to fill in time

Majors are happy to pick D Eddie Shore

Wanted Ray B but I'll settle.... :handclap:

Nice picks all around. Nothing overly surprising so far haha. I know D is obviously a premium but kind of hard to pass the best C in this version of the draft up. I was seriously considering Bourque but Beliveau is one of my all time favorite players since I've become a part of the ATD.....

How could Bourque go over Shore? :shakehead

Eddie wasn't just the best defenseman of his time, he was the best player period, a 7-time Hart trophy finalist, 4 time winner. Bourque was twice a Hart finalist, never a winner.

Well to be fair Van, Bourque also played in the same era as two of the top 4 players of all time. And obviously Bourque was competing against far more players overall.

And Dmen rarely won Hart trophies post WWII. Only 2 Dmen won the Hart after 1944.

Drafted a few guys in this range in the ATD but, never had the opportunity to draft these two...

The St. Catharines TeePees select two of their own:

Bobby Hull -- LW

Stan Mikita -- C

The thing is: They played on separate lines because they did not play their best together.

At least there's locker room chemistry.;)
