(1) not contending soon, (2) already have Panarin/Trouba/Kreider contracts,
(3) will rise >$10M dead Cap if buy out Hank, (4) gotta resign Zib in a couple and
(5) have 4 key RFAs and a key UFA, and (6) the multiple high firsts may earn bonuses which impact Cap

Tbh it's kinda crazy that they couldn't trade him. His buyout penalty is UGLY. They're paying like $11 million between Shattenkirk and Lundqvist for buyouts this year.

Best goalie of his era for a body of work. Damn shame he was on teams that couldn't score enough. That and the idiots officials giving away 2 games in the finals with massive incompetence. That being said, it's time to move on. Hank took a job from an older goalie once upon a time as well. This is the nature of the business. I hope he comes back and is an assistant to BA and becomes our next great goalie coach when BA hangs it up.
