Ranges certainly stockpiling a lot ex Penguin trash. Is Craig Adams next? I'm sure Gorton salivates at the thought of re-uniting him and Glass.

I wanted the Rangers to sign him last year when it was clear Pitt was not going to, I thought he played well for them against the Rangers the previous post-season. Instead they got Glass, we all know that story.

Anwyay, I don't think he is as needed this season as last for the 4th line, but creating competition and having him as an extra forward or Hartford depth is great.

Because having veterans like Chris Bourque in the AHL tends to help developing prospects a lot.

Can't be all prospects and 22 year old ECHLers in Hartford.

Yeah, especially young Ds in the AHL develop a lot better if they get to play for a better team. Avg/poor AHL teams just don't play hockey with the puck, when not pushed back they get no breathing room and the puck is just thrown up ice...

There's really no comparison between Gibbons and Chris Bourque.

Bourque is a soft, one dimensional offensive player, Gibbons is a PK specialist, mostly defensive player that can chip in some offense occasionally. He's a really smart player and he reads plays well, using his speed to force turnovers and win races for the loose pucks.

His biggest flaw is his size. He plays much bigger than he is, but it still leads to limitations, especially when he's trying to battle along the boards with bigger and stronger players. It's a shame he's so undersized, because like wej said, he'd be an NHLer otherwise.

You also inherit Fancy Gibbons with this signing, use it well.

Well, in terms of playing style Gibbons is much more like Chris's brother, Ryan, who also plays for the Wolfpack. But the poster above was not making a comparison to playing style; he was simply talking about the value of a guy who is a high quality AHLer with some years bouncing up and down to the NHL to provide leadership to the kids in Hartford.

We do thank you for fancy Gibbons, however. :)
