Should start for Hartford and then potentially backup Lundqvist in 2016-17 if Raanta leaves via free agency.

it looks like a decent pickup, young kid with good side and experience in the minor. Could be a backup option down the road.

I actually really like this deal.

Used to work with Mitch Korn at his annual goaltending camp over the summer. I used to ask him all the time about stuff in Nashville (before the move to Washington) and he always said that he loved the goalie prospects that they had down there, specifically Hutton, Mazanec and Hellberg. I'll take Mitch's nod on this and say that Benoit Allaire will do twice as better to develop Magnus.

Good trade for a 6th rounder. :handclap:

This kid is a beast. Think Ben Bishop's size, with Hank's movement. Allaire is going to love this kid.

Nice little deal.

In one year, we went from having little behind Hank to being deep at the position.

My question is:

Why was he available? He's still young, promising. Why did they trade him for a 6th in 2 years? What's the catch? Is he going back to play in Europe?

Hellberg can be a group 6 next summer with a one year contract. If the Rangers can sign him to a 2 year contract with one way money in year 2 to be the backup to Hank,it could work.

I think this is the plan. Looks like Lundqvist's backup for the 2016-17 season.

Still a lot of upside with him.

Sounds like the talbot deal from a couple years ago. 1 way at the end. He replaced Biron when he retired. He'll replace Raanta when he hits UFA.

Nashville fan here, the coaches have a hard on for Mazanec even when Hellberg played better. Milwaukee fans will tell you there was just no reason to play Mazanec over Hellberg last year.

Saros is coming over and should challenge for the starting spot in Milwaukee, so Hellberg's the odd man out.
