The most important signing IMO. Having the goalie platoon available for the rough away game schedule to start the season is going to be very needed.

Pretty damn high for 29 career appearances, but he does have the talent and it'll probably pan out.

Best tandem in the whole league. One of the keys to Isles success.

Hopefully it comes with a photo where he doesn’t look like he has something evil up his sleeve unlike this one:

Gotta hope he achieves the consistency required to be a long-term franchise goalie. He definitely has some freakish athleticism.

Without his KHL pedigree, he probably would have gotten $1M+ AAV less. Then again look at what the Rangers played Shesterkin and both goalies are just about even (eventhough I’d give Sorokin the advantage).

Emerging star will now be the 23rd highest paid goalie.

Fair points. It's not quite like the Koskinen debacle in Edmonton because Sorokin's KHL pedigree makes him a virtual lock to be a very good NHL goalie.

Koskinen was average at best during his best NHL starts when the Isles first had him. Much different situations.

Islanders are lucky, in hindsight, thanks to opening night last year. Varlamov got hurt in warmup. Sorokin was forced to make his NHL debut, his North American debut, against the Rangers at MSG, with no advance notice or prep. He predictably got lit up. If you give him a pass and remove that game, he ends the season leading the league in GAA and SV%. Price today may have been considerably higher

Great signing for them. He's the future, and maybe this season the present.

Another good deal. I think most hoped to see 3.5MM aav for 4 years, but maybe that was just wishful thinking. This guy saved the series against Sid and the Pens. Without him, I'm not sure our two years look quite as good.

Sorokin is the real deal. This is a great contract for the Isles for 3 years, much along the same lines as Vasilesky's was with TB before he was signed longterm. In 3 years, Sorokin can cash in if he continues to progress into an allstar Goaltender.
