Davidson is 68. Probably not interested in doing that much traveling at this point in his life.
Gorton got an extension in 2020, so I am assuming that 2021 would have been the final year of his prior deal. So, he likely has another 2 or 3 years on the extension he signed in 2020. So, his choice what he wants to do. Take another job offer or take a year off.

JD has always seemed like a class act. My guess is if he was the fall guy then the fault lies with those not taking the blame. Just my thoughts.
