Reaugh let it be known that he was interested in sliding over to play-by-play after 19 seasons in the analyst’s seat.
But the Stars, who consider Reaugh to be the finest local analyst in the NHL, were reluctant to make the switch.
Among other broadcasters whom the Stars talked to about replacing the popular Strangis were Gary Thorne, once was the lead NHL play-by-play voice for ESPN, and John Forslund, the voice of the Carolina Hurricanes who has also called games for ESPN and Versus, the predecessor to NBCSN. Thorne, 67, currently calls play-by-play for baseball’s Baltimore Orioles.
