Slafkovsky looks like he could play in the NHL tomorrow, imo. You probably have some growing pains because he's younger and still developing, but he played in Liiga last year against men, he scored 7 goals in 7 games at the Olympics, he was over a point per game in the World Championships. His track record internationally against men is actually quite impressive.

It may set the rebuild back a year, but it extends your competitive window by multiple years and you'd think that you're getting a guy who eventually would be an upgrade on Bertuzzi after a couple of years.

To simplify, yes I do it. New Jersey doesn't do it.

You're probably tying #8 overall to Bertuzzi to even get New Jersey to entertain the offer. And even then, probably not quite enough to tip the scales.

If you toss him into the league right away you're 100% f***ing him long term. Slaf's a project pick. Sure he's physically ready to be an NHLer but skill wise he isn't and if you toss him in you'll only do him harm. If we look at the big Liiga forwards (all were significantly more productive than Slaf) the only guy who actually belonged in the NHL his D+1 was Laine. Rantanen sucked so he only got 9 games and was sent down. Kakko was in the NHL and analytically had the worst WAR year on record his D+1 and he hasn't been able to develop his offensive game because he was was rushed. Puljujarvi was jerked up and down and should've just been down his entire D+1 year and his D+2 year as well. Kotkaniemi was "decent" his D+1 but rushing him has hurt him long term and he's never been as good as he was that year. Slaf has no business being in the NHL for at the very least 1 if not 2 years if you want to develop him properly

I would do it, Jersey wouldn't.

There is also no way that I'd add our 8th pick to Bertuzzi, simply due to the fact that guys like Lundell, Caufield, Sillinger, Zegras, Jarvis, Boldy..in just the most recent drafts were all draftable in the area that we are drafting with our 8th this year, so the amount of talent is still very reasonable, especially if you consider how Yzerman and his team were able to spot talent as of now.

That would be an overpay from our side imo, although this would be what Jersey wanted.

Bertuzzi and Hronek for NJD #2 overall and Bratt (if there's a sense that he won't re-sign).
