Could not find a Player Discussion Thread regarding our best defenseman, Nick Leddy.

Really just wanted to point out that in his last 9 games he is 4-8-12 after starting the season with just 2 assists in his first 9 games. He definitely frustrates me with some inconsistency and lapses from time to time, but overall we're lucky to have him and he is a legit top pairing guy. He's had an up and down year but no denying that he is a top flight player when he is on.

It seems like whenever our offense is going strong, he is a massive part of it. He had a career high of 11 goals and 46 points last year. He needs 7 goals and 32 points in his final 64 games this year to tie that. Is this the year he can become the 50-60 point defenseman we have all known he is capable of?

He might put up those numbers if he stays on PP1, but he shouldn't. Last year we needed him for zone entries (esp. after the loss of Nielsen), but this year we have Barzal on PP1. With two guys capable of running the PP on the half-wall in Tavares and Barzal, with Tavares having the ability to roam around the goal line as well, we need a shot back on the point -- aka Pulock.

Leddy doesn't have a knack at getting wristers through or just doesn't shoot enough, and doesn't have the playmaking ability when the PP is set up. He's good off the rush in transition.

Leddy is entering his prime, he has been an offensive dynamo this season. 18 Points in 21GP?!

Even if he slows down, this will be a career year for him. One of Garth's best moves during his whole tenure & I am not a Garth fan. I think Leddy may finally put himself in a discussion with Josi, Doughty & Others if he can continue to play this way.

He needs to tighten the D side up to be mentioned with the elite defenseman. He has the tendency of lazy passes that result in turnovers. He can be lackadaisical in coverage too.

That said he’s a fine offensive D man who plays well enough to not be considered an offensive specialist. Just entering his prime.

I like having him on the PP because of his speed. In the game against Oilers even McDavid couldn't get away from him in OT (still scored the GWG though)

Seemed like that was a bad change. You had DeHaan and Leddy on the ice and Leddy didn't seem to grasp that he needed to man righty D at that time.

These are the lapses we need to get out of our system. There were still way too many odd man rushes yesterday.

If they can overlook Karlssons defense, I'm sure Nick Leddy is sufficient enough in that area. He just has to score in the top 3 among defensemen.

The whole team has been chasing the puck.... I think it's more of a coaching issue than anything else. One guy chases and it sets off a chain reaction. They need to learn how to identify when it's happening and re-set instead of adding to the problem. Especially with all the young D on the team this year.

I shudder to think how much Leddy's next contract will be? If he continues to improve we are talking a contract upwards of 9 mill by 2022

Easy....he is having a nice year, but he just started living up to the first contract. Leddy was brutal defensively last year. Lets see him repeat this two years in a row before we worry about the next contract.

Agreed. Let’s enjoy his play and hope the Isles make a sound and smart decision when his contract is up. For all we know, Pelech/Toews can be the Isles best dman by then. I’m not suggesting they will be as much as I’m pointing out that these things tend to shift quickly.
