This is to determine the overall worst bang for your buck type of contract. However you personally determine what's the worst (length of contract, monetary value, players output on ice vs what they get paid, decline in play, injuries, position specific, hardest to trade, etc).

Tavares, easily.
He was no need, only nice to have. He raised Marner‘s and Matthews‘ contract numbers. He is not the kind of centre Toronto needs. He is a goalscorer, just like Matthews.

Are you in the wrong thread? None of that makes his contract bad.

So his team has bad salary structure, and his teammates became greedy, and there's a similar player on the roster. That doesn't make him overpaid.

Hes lived up to the contract so far. He was signed to be a point per game center and leader. He's got 198 points in 201 games since he arrived and wears the C.

I‘m not here to argue. I‘m just pointing out the obvious.

Why are no other contracts here being judged on team success or ayoff series wins? Because it's got nothing to do with the discussion. Tavares' contract for Tavares the player is fine.

The Leafs could be the worst team in the league, and Dubas could be fired, and Matthews could walk as a UFA, none of that would make a difference in the context of this thread. His play matches his contract. That's the point.
