NHL has announced that...

@NHL: Rogers Communications & NHL announce 12-yr national broadcast/multimedia agreement on all platforms in all languages. http://t.co/hqJaZkDZiF

@NHL: The agreement w/ Rogers Communications, the largest media rights deal in NHL history, begins w/ 2014-15 season & continues through 2025-26.

@NHL: Rogers selected CBC/TVA sub-licensing deals for Hockey Night in Canada (English) & national French-language multimedia rights, respectively.

@NHL: There will be no further regional games or local blackouts. Rogers has exclusive window to broadcast any game w/ Canadian team Wed/Sat/Sun.

@NHL: As part of the multi-year agreement, CBC will continue to air nationally-televised regular season games on Saturday night and playoff games.

What does this mean for the islanders? Nothing broadcast wise locally but financially this is rather big cause each team gets 1/30th of the NHL's share of this deal which is roughly $87,000,000. Also big news for all our Canadian fans.

It's just crazy to me that some of these teams are getting a check for almost half what their entire franchise is worth.

Does anyone know what the old deal with TSN paid? Curious how much of an increase this will be.

One side note, if it is a huge increase, expect the salary cap (and floor) to jump the year that we move to Brooklyn. Wang will have to spend, but a lot of teams will have extra cap room and the competition for free agents will be fierce.

In an article in the National Post, it quoted Botta saying the current TSN deal as $40M a year. I forget what CBC was paying. Either way, this is a massive move by Rogers and TSN is screwed.

Yeah, but you know who REALLY wins in this deal...Mr Wang himself..yep..

Not only is he gonna get 10-15 mill per year BUT also he makes a butload from Neulion, the backend software that powers centerice and probably very soon gamecentre.

I am positive his greedy ass is gonna go for whl/ohl and Q rights as well
