NHL.com does their top 15/16 power rankings periodically(every week I think?) so I figured I'd make a thread about it since I like reading their evaluation of what teams they believe are the best in the present.

Link: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=691490&navid=nhl:topheads

Interesting note: This week the Bruins are ranked 6th in their P.R list and the #1 Eastern Conference team, Penguins are listed 10th as the #2 East team. Is the west really that dominant as of yet?

PS. If this is too close to just being put in the "out of town thread" then just move it if it is.

Sportsnet has Boston at # 5 - http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-power-rankings-winnipeg-jets-up-san-jose-sharks-down/

The Bruins have allowed just two goals in their current three-game winning streak, and their dominance of Tampa Bay — a combined score of 8-0 in their two games — proves this is the Eastern team to beat.

TSN has Boston at # 6 - http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/rankings/nhl/

3-1-1 in their last five, the Bruins are rounding into form and just need more consistent production from Patrice Bergeron's line to really be back on top of their game.
Key Injuries: D Johnny Boychuk (upper body).

Yup. I read something a couple days ago that the w/l differential the west has over the east is something in the area of + 55.

From NHL.com

Twelve of the 16 teams in the East were .500 or worse against the Western teams heading into Tuesday. None of the eight teams in the Metropolitan Division had winning records against the West. The Tampa Bay Lightning (6-0-0), Boston Bruins (2-1-1), Toronto Maple Leafs (6-3-0) and Detroit Red Wings (4-3-2) were the only Eastern teams with winning records against the West.

I think the West appears to be pretty dominant at this point.

I do think this season at least a lot of the East teams just suck-especially the bottom teams like Buffalo-and the new Metro division is a mess.
