Going back to 2005, the intent wasn't to 'coddle' teams but encourage them to take risks in OT to win the second point as opposed to shelling up and both teams play to a 1 point tie, making the OT boring.

Not saying you can't keep 3-on-3. Just saying to get rid of the loser point - which is worse than getting the participant ribbon. No points for a loss - regardless of when it happens.

Hockey isn’t a W-L league though. For whatever reason. I guess cause it was never a winning percentage/games behind pennant race like baseball.

Ties still get you at 500, with a point apiece.
Not issuing a point each for a game played would actually make a 500 record equivalent lower

Just wins and losses would better reflect what a team actually is.

Take any current record a team has and merge the overtime/shootout losses with regulation losses. Suddenly 8 out of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference are .500 or better, rather than the current 11 out of 16. 7 out of 16 in the Western Conference rather than 11 out of 16.

As it stands, 22 out of 32 teams have a .500 or better points percentage. 21 of those teams are actually at .522 or higher.

Just wins and losses and a games back system reveals what the league should be. Around half the league is at or above .500 and half is at or below. No more nonsense where you have a dozen teams picking up an inflated 100+ points.

Sure missed the whole point but fine.
