I'm not sure about that. Kopitar has the same agent that got 10.5M aav for Kane and Towes. I can see the agent asking for the same money/years. Would this price the Kings out? I don't see how the Kings could let him fly away.

Last year everyone expected the salary cap to keep going up. At 68m that would be a reduction of 1m I think that would cause a lot of problems for anyone negotiating a contract this year. Not the reduction of 1m but the fact that it went down. If the cap actually goes up and not down then maybe Kopitar will get 9m a year.

That is right. As someone mentioned earlier, Chicago would be in such a hole if the cap goes down or even stays the same.

Guessing the aav for contracts for Jones, Toffoli, Sekera, Stoll, and Williams, for some of them to stay with the Kings anyway:

Jones, 2 years, 1.0M & 1.2M, with an aav of 1.1M.
Toffoli, 2 years, 2.0M & 2.2M, with an aav of 2.1M.
Sekera, 7 years, 5.5M aav
Stoll, 4 years, 2.5M aav
Williams, 4 years, 3.5M aav
Kopitar, when it is time and if he has a bounce back year, 8 years, 80M, 10M aav.

I think you are looking 3m a year for 2 years for Toffoli.

Hell to the NO, on these deals. Would rather see Toffoli get 5-6 years at $4M AAV.

I just gotta say absolutely no, to almost all of it, with the exception of Jones and Toffoli.

Forget the bridge deal for Toffoli. No point in doing that for 3 million.

Toffoli should be locked up at 5-6 years at 3.8 or 4.2 million. That way the Kings have him for all of his prime production years, on a good contract.

For Tanner Pearson the bridge deal made sense.

I tend to agree, somewhere around $4M-4.5M would probably be reasonable given the 3 RFA years.

Not sure 3.8 million gets it done. I know it does not happen often but the Kings need to get this done before someone can offer sheet Toffoli. That number could go well past 4 million.

Landeskog, who was the 2nd overall pick in 2011 and Avs' captain, received a 7-year, $39M contract after his ELC expired. That's a bit over $5.5M per year. In the last year of his ELC, he posted 65 points, after having scored 52 points as a rookie, capturing the Calder Trophy.

If Toffoli is re-signed to a long term deal, he definitely won't be getting Landeskog money, however, I think he will definitely earn a contract that will be closer to $5M. I'd say $4.5M would be a hell of a deal for a soon to be 23-year old sniper. I'd definitely go 7-years to retain him until he reaches 30.

Toffoli will be a consistent 25-35 goal scorer that can flourish playing LA Kings hockey. That would be a hell of a deal indeed.

Short news piece concerning the CAP for next year in which the report is that NHL agents were told the CAP could be 68M for next year.
The video segment (about 3 min) talks about a few NHL teams, etc. and ends with Elliot Friedman saying he believes the league and players will come to an agreement that should have the CAP at 70.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-agents-told-cap-could-decrease-next-season/

So going forward, if the kings manage to sign Sekera, TP, MJ and Shore and get in at the CAP. How do they fit Kopi's new deal in starting the following year? It might be in the 9M range, where does that money come from?

There's going to continue to be cap pressure so long as the US dollar continues it's run up. For anyone who has traveled worldwide recently, you've noticed the dramatic increase in the value of the US dollar vs other currencies. Just a year or so ago $1 USD = $1CAD, now $1 USD = $1.25 CAD, so the league is dealing with a 25% inflation increase on salaries in the span of 18 months. That's staggering and difficult to absorb without the cap shrinking since players are all paid in USD.

Sounds great. Why would Toffoli do that?

Security at a Good pay grade.

What if Toffoli gets injured ? what if his play drops off the next two years ?

Kopitar/Doughty/Quick/Voyonov/Muzzin all took deals at decent Pay grades, selling their UFA prime production years.

There are plenty reasons why Toffoli an (RFA) with no access to arbitration would sign that deal.

Pretty hard to turn down a guaranteed $30M over the next 7 years.

Really looking forward to seeing how Chicago handles their cap situation this summer, and if another team sends an offer sheet to Saad.

Letting Kopitar walk over a few millions dollars worth of cap space doesn't benefit the organization. The Kings would instantly become a worse team, and what remains of their cup window would be gone.

Regarding the cap, people often like to talk about the CDN, but the USD is more important. As long as the U.S. dollar shows strength, it will help keep the cap in check.

Keep in mind we may have to pay Connor McDavid at some point! GKG

Not when the CDN TV deal is in CDN$ and the fact that those 7 teams bring in what is estimated to be 33% of the total money. That really depresses grown when your losing that much of your overall revenue.

Who cares about Saad suppose someone sends a 30m 7 year deal to Toffoli?

We'd be able to match that but if not.
We'd get a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd out of it.

Yes the Kings could match but it would affect all other salary cap decisions(Sekera).
It would be a great way to screw the Kings, Hawks(Saad) and Boston(Hamilton).

Not really, Richards is going to be bought out, Williams and Stoll likely won't be back, if Voynov returns a defenseman will be traded if the Kings sign Sekera, or Voynov's contract will be voided and the Kings will have cap space for Sekera.

I know nothing about criminal law but what if the Voynov decision is not so clear cut. For example he is convicted of a lesser crime not involving jail time or deportation and the Kings are not allowed to void his contract. While under league suspension does his salary still count against the cap?
