in my opinion there is ZERO chance scheifele is not on the roster...ready or not, he is at the age where he has to sink or swim.
i also think it is extremely unlikely that trouba will not make it, but there is a small chance.
i am excited for lowry to be honest....unlikely this year but maybe next.
hopefully the jets will have gotten better by subtraction this year....i just wish they would have done something about goaltending.
my prediction is that jokinnen has a bounce back season.
Seriously? there is no damn way it's "sink or swim". I want Scheifele to be here contributing as much as any Jets fan, but this needs to be looked at realistically and objectively.
Look at Tampa Bay prospect Brett Connolly. Drafted 6th overall in 2010 (a year before Scheifele). The year after his draft (2010-2011) he went back to Junior, participated in the WJC. The following season he played 68 games in the NHL and collected 4 goals and 15 points. Last season however, he played 71 AHL games and only 5 in the NHL. We'll see how he does this coming season, but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him hit his stride in the NHL. And... he's just 21 years old.
To attach the "sink or swim" expectations on Mark Scheifele is utterly foolish. There is no straight line in terms of development. If Scheifele proves he needs some AHL time this season, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that and no reason next season he couldn't still step in to the NHL and still be a 50-60 point player. Heaven forbid he'd only be 21... oh no...
