Mad respect to Tardif for that. He's well aware of the risks COVID could present (especially being in a hospital setting) yet he's putting a career that likely in theory would have kept him safer from COVID (compared to a hospital anyway) on hold just to help people.

Hell, he could have opted out of his contract, went into isolation and still be totally fine. Yet he willingly chooses to fight.

Give him the Man of the Year award.

He's reported to have made around $22 million in his 6 year career so far.

He re-did his contract in April, so not really sure how this impacts him. With the way his prior deal was, this likely would have been his final year with the team before they would potentially need to cut him to save cap space when Mahommes goes into his 5th year option and makes over $20 million.

Guess we will see what direction he leans to for his professional career. He could very well follow Joe Thomas and others who dropped a 50-60 lbs once they left football starting now. Is Larry going to continue to eat the calories to remain around 300 lbs which doesn't benefit him as a doctor so that he comes back next season, again with the real possibility that KC has to cut him?

Considering he suffered a pretty bad leg injury a year ago i could see this being a crossroads where a combination of wanting to further his medical career and the damage already done leads him to walk away.

He's got his ring, he's got plenty of money (not like it matters since he'll make fat stacks in his other career lol) and most importantly he still has his health. If anyone is gonna know when to walk away, it's gonna be the guy with the MD.

From the NFL/PA memo covering players who opt out:

- All players who opt out will have their contracts tolled. i.e. The contract will pick up in 2021 with what would have been the 2020 season.

- Players who opt out and do not have a qualifying medical condition will receive a $150k stipend, which is treated as a salary advance from future year earnings.

- Players who opt out with a qualifying medical condition will receive a $350k stipend which is not a salary advance. The player will also receive an accrued season towards FA and credited season for player benefits calculations. From the list I would expect there's a material number of players who would qualify.

Qualifying medical conditions (note: player must have a diagnosis on their medical records prior to this agreement) are:
- cancer
- chronic kidney disease
- COPD
- weakened immune system from organ transplant
- serious heart condition, including but not limited to heart failure, coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathies
- sickle cell disease
- type-2 diabetes
- asthma
- cerebrovascular disease
- cystic fibrosis
- hypertension/high blood pressure
- weakened immune system due to blood or marrow transplant
- immune deficiencies
- HIV
- use of immune-weakening medicines
- neurological conditions
- liver disease
- pulmonary fibrosis

Washington DE Caleb Brantley has opted out of the 2020 season, with a higher-risk opt out designation. He's the sixth player to opt out of the season.
