Dowd reinstated as the HC. Really glad this seems to have worked out and I'd have been surprised if it was the case otherwise.

"I know Jim Dowd, I played against Jim Dowd. I've known him since 1983... He's been a gentleman since the day I met him. He's a great coach and a great ambassador for the sport of hockey," O'Neill told the board. "In my eyes, as someone who knows the ins and outs of hockey and who has coached over 500 games, the future of Manasquan ice hockey has never ever been brighter than it is now with Jim Dowd at the helm."

"He's one of the greatest coaches and people I've ever met in my life," Rudo said of Dowd.

After the board announced that Dowd would be reinstated, the room broke out in applause with Dowd's players leading the way.

"I think it's great that we're getting our coach back," sophomore Chris Daugherty said.

"It's what the decision should have been," said Max Lyons, a junior on the team. "It's been difficult without him here, but we're glad it's over."

Glad Dowd's been reinstated, and it's touching to see the outpouring of support he received. Bravo for everyone except the anonymous coward who filed the false complaint!

Anyone else figure those parents that brought all this about were Rag or Flyer fans?

Why, yes. That dang Dowd was a thorn in the Rangers side his whole career! To this day, Rangers fans scowl and shudder at the sound of Dowd's name.

In all seriousness, though, good for Dowd. I know people from Manasquan and it is a HUGE deal down there. I'm glad it all got sorted out.

Matt Carle out 6 to 8 weeks.

Zidlicky?

Tampa would be a more logical landing point than say Detroit. The ball will be in Zids' court though with the NTC. If he doesn't want to move, then there's not much Lou can do. Ie, Milan Hejduk preferred to stay during those years when the Avs weren't in the playoff hunt.

Not to mention like ALL the Leafs stars in the mid 2000's refusing to waive NTC's lol

I can't imagine being in John Ferguson Jr's shoes when he got Philly to agree to deal Jeff Carter and a 1st for Tomas Kaberle, only to have Kaberle say no thanks.

http://www.tsn.ca/young-guns-and-euro-all-star-team-to-be-featured-in-world-cup-of-hockey-1.187717

NHL and NHLPA executives are expected to announce on Friday the details of the rekindled World Cup of Hockey, a tournament that will feature eight teams, including two unconventional ones.

Besides Canada, the U.S., Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Finland, the league and union will announce a European All-Star team will participate. That team will be stocked with players who come from countries other than those participating as nations.

Also, the tournament will feature a team with North American players under the age of 23.

Obviously not perfect, but I'll still enjoy watching some early September hockey.

I don't really get the two add on teams, I get you want to have more of the NHL's best players involved but this is stupid. What are they going to call these teams that isn't an elongated title? And if one of these teams win where does the trophy go to?

Just either have a six team tornament with five first round games and a four team playoff or have an eight team tournament with two developing nations like the Swiss.

I guess they are going the route of the Cricket federation a consolidated team ie the West Indies?

Canada
USA
Switzerland
Sweden
Finland
Russia
czech
Slovakia

Can all yield teams. A mixed team for the rest makes sense.

Why are we sure Zidlikcy is moving? Oddly, Lamoriello etc. are still talking playoffs. They may regard him as a key, core piece of a team they don't want to tank but continue to try to be competitive.

It wouldn't be the first time. I think it's likely. I will thus be very surprised (not approving, surprised) if Zidlicky goes anywhere.

Of course they're talking playoffs, they want to keep the team and fanbase engaged in the dog days of winter. Realistically they need a MASSIVE winning streak to get back in the race by the deadline. They're 12 points out and it might take 100 points to make the playoffs this year or something close to it. We haven't had even a three game win streak since the season opening trip. It's not happening, Lou isn't delusional.

I absolutely agree the playoffs are not realistically possible. And the paradox is that winning is actually contrary to our future interests, because you move further away from a truly meaningful 1st round draft pick.

But that doesn't mean that Lamoriello won't get caught up in his own logic somehow and not deal Zidlicky. And even for the future he may regard him as someone he wants around. Go figure. But I won't be surprised if they don't deal him. Stranger things have "not" happened.
