I thought it would be interesting to breakdown the average point totals for each national team based on play in the NHL up to this point using the top 12 forwards and 8 defensemen for each country. Here's what I found (not exactly scientific but whatever...):

Forwards:

1) Canada: 36.08
2) Sweden: 26.33
3) Russia: 25.83
4) Czech Republic: 24.00
5) U.S: 23.16
6) Slovakia: 21.66
7) Finland: 16.25
8) Germany: 3.66

Defensemen:

1) Canada: 22.25
2) U.S: 17.375
3) Czech Republic: 16.375
4) Finland: 16.25
5) Sweden: 11.375
6) Russia: 10.5
7) Slovakia: 7.625
8) Germany: 1.00

Yeah, the U.S. has gotten some good production on the blueline this year. I was pretty surprised by how poor Russia's defensemen has produced. Gonchar's horrible year certainly plays into that.

Zhitnik leads all Russian defensemen, did you factor him in despite NHL.com listing his birthcountry as Ukraine?
