Aside from whether or not he had off ice issues, Beaulieu did not develop well. Much of this came from the dark years of the Therrien's "system" throughout the Habs org. back when he was a young junior star. If anything, his play got worse in the NHL. The talent, the physicality have always been there but he's now a fringe borderline waiver pick. Kinda sad but that's what bad coaching does to kids who would have otherwise thrived in a different environment. These learning years are crucial to careers.

It's easy to blame a bad coach like MT but at some point the player has to take responsibility too. He hasn't exactly exploded in other systems either, he left Montreal at a young enough age.

At some point you just gotta admit that a player just doesn't have what it takes to be a great player. NB is one of those, he just doesn't have the hockey sense. He was given every opportunity and couldn't take it to the next level, that's him not the system.

We dont need another bottom pairing dman, we have plenty. This thread has turned into nothing more than fans telling Leafs fans how crummy our defense is and that's fine. I'll take my chances.

lol let me get this straight.

Morriseey, Pionk, Kulikov > Rielly, Muzzin and Barrie? Even when the Jets had Trouba, Buff and Myers their defence core was still worse than the Leafs. Jets mightve been the most overrated and overhyped team in the last decade.
Based on this 'facts', why should Toronto trade for Beaulieu. Something does not compute.

What off ice issues? Ive never heard of that before

It was never major stuff, just stuff that's major in the wrong market. In Buffalo or Winnipeg, it's not even worth mentions but in Toronto or Montreal, it's talk show gold.

Canadiens prospect Nathan Beaulieu, father Jacques plead guilty to assault

The party incident where him and Christian Thomas were photographed having too much fun for the team's liking (broke curfew, team didn't like where when and how they partied). They went clubbing after a Montreal loss and got photographed a bunch partying at 530am.

The report that came out that Kassian was partying with NB the night Kassian crashed the car which saw Kassian get traded.

The photo of NB supposedly doing cocaine that was in the papers during the last playoff series he played on Montreal a couple months before he got traded.

It's over a 5 year period and most of it is overblown young rich kid partying thing but Montreal had a culture on the team if didn't like and traded away the guys they felt caused it (Galchenyuk, Thomas, Kassian, DSP, NB etc etc with Patches partially being a casualty for not being able to lead through it). Montreal's off ice perception of him is why he was traded before the expansion draft.

Add that his father coached Nathan Beaulieu in St. John before he played for Michel Therrien. Jacques Beaulieu also coached Alex Galchenyuk.

Zach Kassian did not crash the car. The female driving did:Woman charged with crashing ex-Canadien Kassian's truck to learn fate May 3
