Heck, they could both become better than Fiala. Who knows. But the fatal flaw in this proposal is that it just totally ignores the fact that Nashville is trying to win a Stanley Cup right now... this season is more important to the Preds than anything Tage or Nylander "might" do in the next 10 years. Any trade which offers futures to the Preds is likely to be intrinsically flawed.

Coupled with that fact that, the Sabres hope one of the prospects can put up numbers that Fiala at 21 has already put up.

...so a 21 year old established top 6 forward is now too old to be apart of the Buffalo rebuild and help them in 2 or 3 years?
No but I’d rather have two cheap good middle 6 forwards than an expensive top 6 forward then. We’ll have to pay Mittelstadt/Dahlin/Reinhart/Guhle etc.
Fiala is worthy of a pretty high cap hit :)

Ah so quantity is totally irrelevant. Cool story.

The quantity that includes a guy that barely made .5 ppg in his second season in the AHL? Fiala did much better his first season in the AHL and North America, and that's ignoring the 23 goals and nearly 50 points he scored in the NHL this year. At nearly the same age, Fiala was much better in the NHL than Nylander was in the AHL. Sadly, Nylander does not have much trade value at all, he could still become a good player, but nothing he has done on the ice since being drafted has indicated that. We all love our prospects and everything, but come on.

You can add inferior pieces all you want. Doesn't give any reason for the Preds to give up a proven player who has performed great at the NHL level.

Your story needs work.

Who says that Fiala is superior to Tage long term??? Sample size is moniscule on both.

It's not certain either way. That's the point. Fiala has proven, in his first years at the NHL level, to be a great talent. And he's only about to turn 22. The others, while decent prospects, have not yet. See Morty's post above.

Again, there isn't a reason for Nashville to consider this.

Who cares? Any prospect could turn out better than Fiala is now. Fiala was a more highly regarded prospect than Thompson. Fiala has developed perfectly since being drafted and proved last season that he can score 20+ goals and ~50 points in the NHL. The thing is, there isn't any reason to believe Thompson would be better, there is nothing to point to that would suggest he will be better, though of course it is possible. At an age gap of just over 1 year, you can't really play the potential card to make up the very clear gap in current value
