The Cure -- Three Imaginary Boys

Linda Ronstadt -- Silk Purse (HM: Heart Like a Wheel)

The Police -- Reggatta de Blanc

Pink Floyd -- The Wall

John Lennon -- Imagine

Tom Waits -- Closing Time

David Bowie -- Hunky Dory

Led Zeppelin -- Houses of the Holy

HM: Star Wars score (not now, but back in the day), Queen, Rush, Grease soundtrack (never sat through the film)

Your lists were simply amazing. By the time I read the 3rd post after mine and saw some of The Nuge's great picks such as Van Halen - Van Halen, Paranoid - Black Sabbath, and Highway to Hell - AC/DC, I had to give up. There's no way I can fit all the great 70s albums into a top 10 list. Thanks for posting! :)

That’s the tough part about top 10 lists. I listen to rock and rap, so I know the 70s music I like isn’t necessarily what’s going to make most top 10 lists, and I had a hard enough time trying to narrow mine down to 10, let alone trying to factor in other top albums

This has been pretty tough, except for #1, no contest for me.

1) L'homme à la tête de chou - Serge Gainsbourg
2) John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band
3) If Looks Could Kill - Jim French with Galas & Kaiser
4) Easy Action - Alice Cooper (this one's pretty tough, a couple of great little known albums to choose from)
5) Weasels Ripped my Flesh - The Mothers of Invention
6) Aerial Pandemonium Ballet - Harry Nilsson
7) All Things Must Pass - George Harrison
8) Maggot Brain - Funkadelic
9) The Faust Tapes - Faust
10) Ram - Paul McCartney

Kind of a Beatles fan, yeah. I guess the only way #1 could have been taken down is by an ultimate Beatles album including the best songs from #2-7-10. Songs of Love and Hate by Leonard Cohen would probably be #11. Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass is an album I have huge respect for but that I really couldn't listen to much...

Alice Cooper is probably the most underrated american musician. I guess his hard rock kitsch from the mid-80s and so on cast an unfavourable shadow on his amazing early work.

If live albums count, Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous" probably makes the top ten.
