Really mind blowing. Too bad people don’t understand simple charts like this. Morons.

McDavid over Lundqvist....? In the last 10 years...?

How would you rank the top 3 goalies since 2005?

Personally, I find it difficult to compare Lundqvist against the top skaters, and then there's Thomas (2 Vezina's, 1 Conn Smythe), Price (1 Hart, 1 Vezina) and Bobrovsky (2 Vezina's).

I feel the “Must haves” are

Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Lidstrom
Thornton

Everything else after that is somewhat controversial. I feel this is to big of a sample size considering guys like EK, Giroux, Stamkos, And Tavares came into the league fully 5-6 years after the lock out.

Then there are guys like Datsyuk, MSL, and Iginla, who were still dominant years after the lockout, but then got older and either retired years ago since or continued to play but with less impact.

That's a pretty crappy list of must haves.

The musts for me are:

Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin (those 3 are easy enough and should be unanimous) and Patrick Kane

Patrick Kane has an argument for top 3 (top 2?) playoff performer since, and is prolly 4th best regular season forward, or close.

Lidstrom is old past 2005. I mean - he can make it, but i don't think it's a must. Is post 2005 Lidstrom any better then the best of guys like Keith, Doughty, Karlsson?
Thornton can maybe make it but i'm always extremely underwhelmed by his playoffs. If we're counting 2005-2006, that gives him at least 2 monster regular seasons which helps. Without 2005-2006 im not sure he makes the list though, and if he does certainly not as a must.

Lidstrom won 4 Norris trophies post 2005. He’s pretty much a lock for this.

So many here are choosing players that have been great over the last 5-6 years rather than looking at the whole 12 year span. It’s a very “what have you done for me lately” mixed with playoff success.

That's a pretty crappy list of must haves.

Thornton sits 3rd in points and first in assists through a majority of the past 10 years. He is easily one of the best players post lockout. He didn’t have just 1-2 monster years. Ok...his resume in general is still a HOF one over the last 10 years, so excluding all that and focusing on playoffs is idiotic. Les stop changing the criteria to “top 10 playoff players since ‘06.”

Lidstrom has 4 Norris trophies and a cup from ‘06-‘12. That’s half the time we are talking, how the hell would be not be a must? Doughty, EK, and Keith came into their own after Lidstrom was no longer in the running, but 4 Norris trophies says otherwise.

I mean, all your doing is leaving half of last 12 years out of the equation, while focusing on the last half....Your also saying the the best playmaker of this generation, as well as the best Defenseman aren’t “must haves”

I'll state 10 favorites since 2005, not necessarily top 10 in the league.

1. Alex Ovechkin (in his 2005-2010 prime)
2. Joe Thornton (Guy was a passing machine and can still do great things)
3. Sidney Crosby (How can we not name him)
4. Jeff Carter (Not a favorite of mine but consistent over the years)
5. John Tavares (Consistent over the years)
6. Zdeno Chara (Size, Skill)
7. Drew Doughty (I have not seen him play much except in the playoffs but people have been high on him)
8. Evgeni Malkin (Did it all and still great)
9. Henrik Lundqvist (Another consistent one. Great year after year)
10. Steven Stamkos (Great scorer before injuries started. Still great player).

HM : Kovalchuk, Karlsson, Stall, Chara, Parise, Price, Luongo, Quick

All these lists with no Chara on them. Sad. Low energy. Small hands.
haha, saw your message after my post. Glad I finally included him instead of him being in the honorable mentions.
2005 is dating back from his last year in Ottawa up until now!

Terrible.

Embarrassing list.

Cups are ultimate goal. Those guys are primary reasons their team won cups. Who on the list do you think should not be in consideration for top 10. Given you say the list is terrible you must think most do not belong

You forgot Justin Williams then, 3 cups and a Smythe don’t lie.

Also, you don’t even have Ovechkin.....you have Toews and Bergeron over Ovechkin, basically contradicting your initial criteria. Let that sink in.

Question for OP, do you mean "best players who have played since 2005" or "best resume from 2005 to now"? A guy like Lidstrom would be higher in my list if it's the former instead of the latter. Assuming it's best resume since 2005, I'd go:

1. Crosby
2. Ovechkin
3. Lidstrom
4. Malkin
5. Datsyuk
6. Keith
7. McDavid (only this low because his career has been too short to be higher)
8. Karlsson
9. Kane
10. Thornton

All these lists with no Chara on them. Sad. Low energy. Small hands.

Chara surprisingly only had 1 Norris trophy in his career. I was surprised to see it was that low.

Whats your reasoning for putting Lidstrom ahead of Malkin? I’m curious.
