My Team is So Boring . . .

For the record I think hockey's exciting still. I found following Tampa, Panthers, Carolina, Colorado and the NYR helped. But just as a Flames fan not having any high end talent anymore (ie Gaudreau and Tkachuk when they were here and playing well) plus an awful power play and then missing the playoffs well before the season end made for an experience that dragged on.

I do think this is so true and mainly the fact that there is just too little space out. I'll watch those intl tourneys and it's just more speed, creativity, attacking space, bounce passes, more fun.
For real, I really think a good women's game like between 2 top ranked college teams or US-Canada is more entertaining than just about any NHL game I see just for the fact there is more space, similar to basketball where I find the NBA almost unwatchable considering how boring it is and how many points they score and I was surprised how caught up in the whole NCAA womens tournament I got, NHL should make the rinks bigger and NBA needs to make the courts wider and raise the baskets 1 or 2 feet

Well you are in for a threat as the whole world is slowly adjusting to the nhl rink size.

Khl going this route
Next Olympic in Italy will build its amenities to nhl size.
IIhf now make the world junior and the world championship tournament required to be play on the 85-200 north American dimensions.

You can't beat the economic in regards to build smaller rink with more compact seating.

The league needs expansion, badly. The average talent level is too high. Teams are too deep. The stars can’t shine.

IMO the stars are shining just as bright as ever. We have a top-5 all time player in Crosby, the future GOAT goal scorer in Ovechkin, and the best player of the three in McDavid, all at the same time. Makar is doing generational things that make us realize Karlsson was only semi-generational last year. Toronto currently has its biggest star in franchise history. So does Colorado, Tampa, Minnesota, Nashville, maybe New Jersey, and arguably a couple of other teams.

The problem now is that it’s spread over 32 teams when it used to be spread over 21. Back in the day, it was easy to name a star player on every team unless that team was just terrible. Now, there are decent teams where you really have to stop and think about it. Your average fan would struggle to name a player on St Louis or Seattle or Philly or Arizona. That’s not going to change by adding more teams, unfortunately.

Weird. I love hockey, today and yesterday. I'd love a bit more toughness but the skill level and parity is at an all time high. So many great young players coming into the game.

Seriously. Go watch replays of even games in the mid-2000s. It's river hockey. Still lots of guys who could barely skate. Huge defencemen just standing there and trying to physically obstruct the forwards, and usually getting away with it.

I want big hits, physical play, bad attitudes, and true passion. There is close to zero of that now.

Make the season much shorter so games actually matter every night

No, it's the opposite. Teams can't defend the center-ice and it feels like there's a bunch of teams who don't do anything.

The median competition would decrease in quality, so players would perform better than they currently do.

I’d rather have McDavid scoring 180 points in a 36 team league than have McDavid scoring 90 pts in a 24 team league.
