My dad was looking at the AZCentral.com website on his tablet. And my old high school, Marcos de Niza (Tempe, AZ) is in the AIA Division II state finals! They play Scottsdale Saguaro at Arizona Stadium on Saturday at 4:00PM. My high school has been only to 1 other state final, but loss to Scottsdale Chaparral when they went 3-straight state titles.

Has your high school been to the state/provincial finals?

I don't really care anymore since I've been out of high school for 10 years but the high school I went to has been to the state final 13 times in the last 23 years.

My school won the state title in 1999 and during my junior year in 2008, we lost the state title game before winning it my senior year in 2009.

My high school was/is perpetually mediocre in football. 5-4 almost every year...above average year at 6-3 this time around.

*shrugs*

Much more of a hockey school...Bethel Park won the 'National Title' last year.

My school was a joke at football

While I was in high school the Varsity record was

99-00 = 1-8
00-01 = 2-7
01-02 = 1-8
02-03 = 0-9

Actually got worse in years after I graduated

11-12 = 0-9
12-13 = 0-9
13-14 = 0-9

Basketball was always the school strength when it came to athletics with many 20+ win years and qualifying for playoffs over several decades. Won State Championship twice (70-71 and 71-72) when Quinn Buckner was playing for team

My school was always 3rd fiddle in area to Thornton and Thornwood. Those schools won more and produced more professional talent across multiple sports then my school

Once you pass the threshold from bad to historically bad it's almost more entertaining.

Here's looking at you, Lock Haven University football program...though they somehow won 2 games this year. Respect the 52 game losing streak.

My high school basically acts like a small university with better facilities than most of them.

Football stadium (3,500 capacity on the home side)

On campus hockey arena (1,300 capacity). J.J. Watt spends a lot of time here during the summer.

My school has never won a state title. Why is this strange? Because I went to Isadore Newman High School in New Orleans. Omar Douglas, Peyton, Manning, Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. No championships. :(

Your school district must be loaded

My school had a track circle around a football field with 2 small metal bleachers and a small building with small locker rooms

These are all recent upgrades. The only thing that was pictured when I went to school there was the hockey arena. The football stadium upgrade came about 5 years ago, the basketball locker rooms less than a year ago. When I was there the bleachers for football were old, warped wood bleachers that felt like they were going to topple over if you took a heavy step. The field turf was installed my senior year.

And yes, a lot of these rich parents donate to the school to get their kids on the team/get them playing time. The school gets kids from like 10 different communities in the area from the outlying areas where people build their McMansions. The area around the school is actually middle to upper middle class.

They were perpetual losers when I was actually in school (graduated in 2001), but my school (Rush-Henrietta) won the NYS Championship in 2010 in AA (the largest class). They lost by a point to the 24th ranked team in the nation in the playoffs this year.

That basketball locker room looks like an outer space nite club

Sick stuff :)

Since 2006, my old high school, Terry Fox Secondary, has won four JV provincial championships and two varsity championships, while also losing two. The varsity team is currently ranked #1 in the province, and will play in the provincial semi-finals next weekend. Before this, their only championship came in 1989.

Other than the "A" logo eerily reminding me of the University of Arizona logo, impressive facilities. :handclap:

I went to a private school that did not have football. Our mens basketball team did win a state championship about 3 years after I graduated.

The public HS near me had something like a 14 year playoff drought in football. When they finally did qualify in 2007 I believe they were found ineligible because of a transfer rule, and have made it maybe one year since.

Good ole Bethel Park...

We won the State title in 1996 and were runner-up in 94. Our high school split into two in 04. My school lost in the district final in 05. In 2012 and this year they were the one seed in the district tournament, but lost in the first round in '12 and second round this year. If we were still one school, we'd dominate.

The high school football team where I went was awful when I was there. Strangely it was a state power in the 80s. One interesting stat from the long-gone glory days was that the team didn't allow a single point to a conference/league opponent for something like 3 straight years. So we are talking almost 20 games. One year they even went 4 straight games not allowing a first down.
