He's had an awesome season. Truly a complete defenseman. It's still hard to believe we got him for what we did.

Great player. Thank you Bob Gainey and Pierre Gauthier. They weren't very high on Ryan.

They were crazy to give him up. One of the things we've avoided in trades is giving up any young asset that we eventually regretted. Malhotra ended up having a decent career. Dale Weise and Lauri Korpikoski are role players. Who else? Zidlicky was the one player from recent memory that was a regrettable trade. Erixon hasn't taken the next step yet. The Lindberg/Werek swap looks like a it will be a win. We don't do much swapping of prospects in deals, either trading or acquiring.

Seems about right Zuccarello and McDonagh splits the awards between them this season. Also, it's awesome to see the MVP award is just not an automatic Lundqvist trophy. That means the Rangers are now a better team than they've been before. To get far, you need several anchors that can be catalysts for the team.

Gainey saw McDonagh play a few games at Wisconsin. Gauthier saw McDonagh at the World Juniors. Both of them were not impressed with him. Gauthier was Gainey's main assistant and was doing a lot of the work. Gainey's daughter died and had more important issues to deal with. Montreal had a deal worked out for Vinny. TB leaked the deal to the media which annoyed Montreal. Sather and Gainey were together at some function which is where the Gomez deal was hatched. The draft was later that week. It was announced a few days after the draft. Montreal makes the deal with Tampa. No Gomez deal. Oren Koules and Len Barrie owned TB at the time. Someone leaked the deal with the Habs. Gainey made the deal with Sather.

McDonagh is a beast!
Montreal really screwed the pooch on that trade.
MTL's 1st 3 picks in 07'

McDonagh 12th overall
Pacioretty 22nd overall
Subban 43rd overall

That is a 10yr top pairing to rival any in the league, and a #1 LW!
Thank you MTL.

Wow I didn't realize that. Two possible Norris Trophy winners (one of which has already won it) in the same draft!

Incredible

It's a well deserved honor, one that a lot of people had predicted for awhile this year.

What is amazing is that, even though McDonagh deserved it over Lundqvist, Henrik still pieced together a statistically decent season after all of his struggles. .920 and 30+ wins yet again.

The scary thing about McDonagh is that he seemed to improve every single game. You wonder when it is going to stop.

Well deserved. McDonagh is probably the only Ranger that performed at a high level all season long. Best player this year by a country mile.

And that wasn't even because we didnt like him. IIRC, he wanted a guaranteed roster spot.

Despite Weise and Korpikoski being role players, this is a team thats had trouble filling role players from within - considering the trades didn't net any longer-term solutions, I'd consider them disappointments. Especially considering Korpikoski was traded for one of the dumbest hockey players I've ever seen.

In hindsight, the Tyutin for Zherdev trade wasn't too good either.

Granted, these were no massive disappointments, but still.

This is extremely well deserved, MacTruck has been the true backbone of this team this season.

I'm glad that he also received the Player's player award, it speaks of a unified lockerroom

I recall the Lightning leaking that deal. What was it again? Something like Higgins, Gorges and Plekanec for Lecavalier? I vaguely remember Price possibly being involved as well.

The Tyutin deal was pretty bad. He's a really solid defenseman, and it turned into nothing for us.

Korpikoski, too. He'd look solid on this team.
