Kind of proving his point haha.

Only Rask, Helle, Bishop and Markstrom played more games and had a higher SV% than Koskinen this season, but most people will try to tell you he was trash.
1. Koskinen wasnt very good in the playoffs.
2. He was a tandem goalie and it was 1 year. Are we really gonna tout koskinen as underrated and a top goalie in the league when essentially playing a time share in the starters role at age 31, when just the season before he put up garbage stats as a starter?

I think koskinen needs to prove a lot more than this 1 half season before we an start talking about him being underrated.

Was andrew hammond underrated because after his rookie year run people rightfully didnt rate him as the best goalie in the league or think hed repeat?

Easy to cherry pick stats when you go by that kind of criteria. Of course the less sample size a goalie has the more likely he’s going to do better because consistency isn’t needed. That’s why there’s some goalies that excel as backups (see Khudobin and allen) but can never be starters in the nhl.

Of all the goalies to play more games than Pavel Francouz, only 1 (Rask) had a higher save % than him. Francouz only played in 4 less games than koskinen.

better yet of all goalies to play more games than Khudobin, no one had a higher save %. See how the less and less games played gets, the better and better goalies stats get if they are 1B material?

Based off your cherry picked stats, Jake allen must be the most underrated goalie in all of the nhl. he put up much better numbers than binnington and was a top goalie in the playoffs before being eliminated. At such a modest 4.35M people still view him as a cap dump. How could people think that of a goalie putting up top 5 goalie stats.

Corey Crawford. People think back to his early days of winning cups with mediocre play being carried by a dominant team. People seem to forget that he's turned into a legit stud, consistent goaltender.

Philipp Grubauer is Mr. Consistency too. He pretty well only gets beat when he's supposed to get scored on. He isn't going to make too many acrobatic saves and it's because he doesn't have to. Just consistently plays his position the way it's meant to be played.

The thread is about underrated goalies. Not the top goalies in the league.

He had a really good year in a tandem and people still talk about him like a pure cap dump. That's why he's underrated.

Kuemper really doesn't get enough cred. Without injuries he's a Vezina finalist. Extremely consistent over the last two seasons.

Because he is a cap dump. If 4.5M only gets you a goalie that can play 41 games before his numbers go bad, you’re saying teams need to spend 9M on goaltending. But hey keep koskinen and please re-sign him to the same kind of money or more. Helps all the other teams in the league

Quick has to be in the conversation. His basic numbers are great, backed by a league best XG per 60 (well it was when I looked a week or so ago). The offensive support he’s getting is patchy at best so LA are very reliant on him at the moment.

Edit: a bit odd digging up such an old thread.
