Most tanktastic lineup? 2015 vs 2023

I half ass asked this question the other day, but really which lineup is worse?

These were the lines right after the 2015 tdl.

Tye McGinn - Sm Gagner - Martin Ert

Today's lines look something like this probably:

Clayton Keller - Barrett Hayton - Nick Schmaltz (possibly out?)
Matias Maccelli - Jack McBain - Lawson Crouse
Milos Kelemen - Travis Boyd - Christian Fischer
Liam O'Brien - Laurent Dauphin - Zack Kassian

Juuso Valiamki - JJ Moser

2015 easily. That team could not score or stop the puck. They were unwatchable.

Having Keller and schmaltz alone blows away the 2015 team, and that’s not even counting maccelli, Crouse, Hayton, Mcbain, moser, valimaki, Soderstrom, koly, the goaltenders..

There is no comparison imo

I would easily take today's lineup over the 2015 one. The 2015 lineup is lots of journeymen and not much to look forward to. Today's lineup has a bunch of young guys and prospects that are at least exciting.

That was the year Smith was so bad, Dubnyk was outplaying him so we had to trade him because Schmiddy's fee fees were hurt. I don't think Jack Adams himself could have coached up that team.

It wouldn't necessarily be significantly more successful on the ice but more entertaining for sure. I also think they'd be better with Bear but still a good bit worse than this team.

FWIW I think if you take the goalies out, 2023 is actually worse on ice (I agree with the youth/more hopeful aspect bits though).

Mike Smith was *that* bad in 2014/15. If the Coyotes had even below average goaltending they wouldn't have even been in the McDavid sweepstakes to begin with.
