Red Wings were among the worst records in the standings so it might be a bit of a surprise they were 9-0 in the shootout.

Especially considering they've been pretty terrible at the shootout for several years.

Naturally they go perfect in the shootout during a year it would've been better for them to lose every time and improve their lottery chances.

Red Wings haven't had a 30 goal scorer since the 2008-2009 season.

Man that's depressing. Especially because in 2009 they had four 30+ goal scorers.

Carolina Hurricanes had a pretty weird playoff statistics:

From 97/98 season they were only 5 times in playoffs.

2 times in Stanley Cup finals.

1 Stanley Cup

Plus another appearance in Eastern Conf finals. That means, from year 2002 the were always at least in 3. round. Or semifinals. :handclap:

And now they are 8 season without playoff.

The majority of Pens fans were frustrated that JR was hired as GM. His 20 year tenure with Carolina is pretty awful outside of 2 playoff runs.

Boy were we wrong. :yo:

Surprising stat about the Penguins is that, despite all the silly accusations of "tanking", they have missed the playoffs just 5 times in the past 30 years.

Pens are also 2 games away from setting the NHL record for consecutive home sell outs. This streak spans 10 seasons.

They drafted in the top-5 in 5 straight seasons and each of those picks either played a key role, or was dealt to acquire a player who played a key role in their victory. I'll absolutely buy the argument that their "tanking" wasn't intentionally losing, and that they were just bad, but generally one doesn't necessarily mean a team intentionally tanked when they use that word.

You can't judge a GM when the owners do not allow him to spend the money to be competitive.

I think I saw a stat that said the Pens were undefeated when scoring 4+ goals and didn't win a single game when scoring less than 3 last season... until game 7 against Washington in the playoffs and then again in game 6 of the finals.

Sure you can. Many teams make the playoffs with lower payrolls. Making the playoffs just 5x in 20 years in the NHL is pretty pathetic, IMO.
