Lemieux had 12 in consecutive games in Oct. 1988. The Penguins scored 13 goals in the 2 games (I didn't check his whole career, so it's possible there are others).

I notice that Kent Nilsson scored at least 4 points in 4 consecutive games in his big season - 17 points in the 4 games. I wonder how many times that has been done?

Peter and Anton Stastny each scored 14 points in 2 consecutive games. Not sure about goals though.

That's the game in which they each scored 8:

Feb. 22: Peter Stastny, Anton Stastny each get eight points for Nordiques

And they must have scored 6 each in the very next one.

EDIT: No. First they beat on the Canucks in a 9-3 wipeout, each scoring 3+3

Quebec Nordiques at Vancouver Canucks Box Score — February 20, 1981 | Hockey-Reference.com

and two days later, they unleashed more fury on the Caps in an 11-7 win:

Quebec Nordiques at Washington Capitals Box Score — February 22, 1981 | Hockey-Reference.com

With Anton scoring 5+3 and Peter 4+4.

So it seems Anton Stastny may as well be among the record scorers as far as two consecutive games go, if not the one you're looking for.

Quite a madness for a bunch of rookies. And I remember reading it was the only time the league named two best players of the week.

So, we've got the Stastny's with 14 points each over two consecutive games... Can Wayne or Mario beat it?

Goals-wise, we know Gretzky scored 4 goals vs. L.A. on December 27th 1981, and then 5 goals (albeit one into the empty-net) the next game, Dec. 30th 1981, vs. Philly. So, I'm guessing 9 goals in two games isn't beaten by anyone... but I could be wrong.

The most I can find from Gretzky is 12 points in two consecutive games, one of which was an 8-point night vs. Minnesota on January 4th 1984, which was preceded by a 4-point night vs. Calgary the previous day (Jan. 3rd). So, 12 points in about 27 hours... but not enough to match the Stastny's.

Mario also scored 12 in two consecutive games, on Oct. 15th and 18th 1988, vs. St.Louis and Philly.

NOTE: I believe that four times Gretzky put up 20 points over 4 consecutive games, the first (I think) being Feb. 17th to Feb. 24th, 1982, when he scored 9 goals and 11 assists in four games vs. Minny, Hartford, Detroit, and Buffalo.

I'm sure the Stastny's take this, based on points. To beat them, somebody would have to have a 7-point game followed by an 8-point game, which is virtually impossible.

By the way, I checked the scoring race before and after the Stastny's amazing two nights in Feb. 1981.

As of February 19th 1981 (just before), Peter Stastny was 14th in NHL scoring, while Anton was 53rd.

Seventy-two hours later, Peter was 9th and Anton 22nd.

It's possible someone during the high-scoring pre-consolidation era has this record (even though the Stastny's seem very tough to beat here).

The best two-game total I found so far was Newsy Lalonde - 8 goals, 2 assists in consecutive games (January 10th and 12th, 1920).

Joe Malone also had 8 goals in consecutive games (January 28th and 31st, 1920 - there must have been something in the water that month), but no assists, so "only" eight points over two games. He did the same thing (8 goals, no assists) again on March 8th and 10th, 1920.

Cy Denenny had 8 goals and 1 assist in consecutive games (March 7th and 10th, 1921).

Other players with 10+ points over two games

I haven't looked at Gretzky or Lemieux (as I'm guessing they did this multiple times each). I checked a few reasonable possibilities (Jagr, Lindros, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Sakic, Forsberg, Bossy, Oates, McDavid) but couldn't find any for them.

Bryan Trottier had 6 goals and 5 assists for 11 points over two games on December 21st and 23rd, 1978.

Coffey's best two-game stretch, from what I can tell, is March 12th and 14, 1986, where he had 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points. I'm trying to see if Orr (or any other defenseman) ever matched or beat this.

Bernie Nicholls had 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) on December 1st and 3rd, 1988.

Stephanie Richer had 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) on February 10th and 14th, 1990.

"Rookie" Sergei Makarov also had 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) on February 22nd and 25th, 1990.

Steve Yzerman had 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) on February 14th and 16th, 1990.

Rick Middleton did this in the playoffs - 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) on April 18th and 20th, 1983.

Who had the most post lockout?

Which one?

After the first one, it looks like Lemieux in 95/96 (3+8) and Jagr in 02/03 (5+6).

After the second one, Crosby 06/07 (2+8), Spezza 07/08 (3+6).

After the last one, it could be Kucherov last season (2+7).

Thanks. I was talking about the 2004-05 lockout.

Crosby had 6 points vs. Philly in December 2006. The following game it was 4 points vs. the Islanders. That's 10. Still not the best post lockout believe it or not.

Other noteworthy early-NHL streaks of 12+ points in a three game span:

Harry Cameron - 12
12.19.17 - 2g 1a
12.22.17 - 0g 4a
12.26.17 - 4g 1a

Frank Nighbor - 12
2.25.18 - 1g 4a
2.27.18 - 2g 1a
3.6.18 - 4g 0a

Newsy Lalonde - 13, 12
1.7.19 - 2g 1a
1.11.19 - 5g 2a
1.16.19 - 3g 0a

1.7.20 - 2g 0a
1.10.20 - 6g 1a
1.12.20 - 2g 1a

Odie Cleghorn - 8 goals in 2 games
1.14.22 - 4g 0a
1.18.22 - 4g 0a

Babe Dye - 13 points in 3 games, 17 points in 4 games
12.16.22 - 5g 1a
12.20.22 - 0g 1a
12.23.22 - 3g 3a
12.27.22 - 3g 1a

Cy Denneny - 12
2.21.23 - 1g 3a
2.24.23 - 4g 0a
2.28.23 - 4g 0a

Hooley Smith - 12
12.15.24 - 2g 1a
12.18.24 - 2g 3a
12.20.24 - 1g 3a

Takeaways
- Big individual games were common in this era, but streaks were not. I suppose this could be read as a symptom of an unbalanced league.
- Harry Cameron's streak started on the NHL's inaugural evening. As noted above, Joe Malone had a similar start, but in a different game that same evening.
- Pretty sure 9 goals in back-to-back games is the highest of the era, set by Malone in 1918.
- Malone bookended that with 1 goal in the game before, and 1 goal in the game after. Either of those creates 10 goals in 3 games, matching Lalonde (twice) for the highest 3-game goal total of the era.

There's a huge gap from '24 to '29 where goal scoring went down dramatically, and major scoring feats were rare. During this period, players scored back-to-back hat tricks on only 5 occasions:
1) Aurele Joliat, December 8th and 10th 1924
2) Hooley Smith, January 26th and 28th 1926
3) Aurele Joliat, December 17th and 22nd 1927
4) Howie Morenz, March 17th and 20th 1928
5) Frank Boucher, March 18th and 21st 1928

And yes... Morenz and Boucher did it 4 times in 5 days!

After that the next major offensive explosion was:

Frank Boucher - 12
12.12.29 - 2g 3a
12.14.29 - 1g 2a
12.17.29 - 0g 4a

And then we're off into the weird 29-30 season and a different era of the NHL after passing/offside reform.
