A note the +/- for the playoffs for Morrow is imcomplete as I can not find +/- until 1984

Two of my favourite non star defenceman ever. I could never pick which one was better and thought it was always even

Morrow was the first player to win a gold medal at the Olympics and a Stanley Cup in the same year. Morrow was better hitter and probably better defensively but not by much. Gregg was better offensively and was a better skater.

Morrow won 4 cups and Gregg won 5 both were a major part of the Islanders and Oilers respectively. Not exactly the greatest defenceman ever but pretty good too. Both were underated as far as what they did.

I've always liked Morrow, despite despising the Isles, plus I've read multiple sources that mention Morrow as being arguable the most technically sound defenseman of his era.

Morrow is definitely known as one of the most solid defensemen of his time. Gregg was a very strong player who was often #5 on his own team's depth chart - on another team maybe he sits 2nd or 3rd, but then he doesn't win 5 cups and have that stellar playoff +/- either.

Definitely Morrow.

Morrow was good enough to receive a handful of Norris votes in 81-82 (finishing 12th). I don't think Gregg was ever considered at that level.

agree completely.

throw away the stats when it comes to these types of players.

Watching Morrow on the ice against the '83 Oilers in the SC finals was simply unbelievable. Even if you ONLY consider that series, this isn't a close comparison at all.

they are only comparable on the stat sheet. Morrow would have been #2 dman on Oilers, I think better than Lowe.
