Obviously, the Knights have gotten off to a slow start.

Surprisingly, however, they have scored exactly two goals in each of their first five games:

Phi 5 -VGK 2
VGK 2- Min 1
Buf 4- VGK 2
Was 5- VGK 2
Pit 4- VGK 2

Fortunately, it is early in the season.

Unfortunately, things can get ugly really fast. Hopefully, this team can find its offensive mojo soon ... or we will be discussing the Jack Hughes sweepstakes.

We’re five games in.

Might be a little early to freak out, and it’s definitely too early to discuss Jack Hughes unless he’s dropping to the end of the first round for some reason.

Maybe we should only allow our goalies to get injured, we did better than we should have when they went out lol

The team was built for year 3 and year 3 it shall be. Be excited for Glass and for Brannstrom and Hague. Playoffs this year would be preferable, but let's not lose patience on the long term plan.

Every non-playoff team is entered into the draft lottery though. Philadelphia jumped something like 10 spots to grab 2nd overall a few years back.

But I agree, let's wait and see how other Pacific teams do in their first 5 games.

Key injuries and a suspension have hurt this team as the next man up isn't stepping up.

The "next man up" we are currently icing spent a lot of time in the press box last year when we were rolling up wins. I just don't think Lindberg and Carpy are it. I never thought I'd be praying to see Eakin come back, but there I was.

I love Hyka and hope he sticks around a bit. Now bring up Pirri and put Carpenter on the waiver wire from whence he came. Oh, and we picked up Malcolm off the waiver wire, too. Fucale and Dansk would be good goalies to give a shot for backup. While we need better defense, we also need a backup goalie that can step up and protect us from a rush at least every once in awhile.

*** I can't help but wonder if it hurt the team long-term to roll the dice on a good season last Spring instead of sticking with the blueprint of trading assets for futures and building. Nevertheless, I wouldn't trade an inaugural year Stanley Cup run for anything.

Lindberg is super forgettable, but he played 60 something games last season. I'm sure plenty of wins were rolled up in that period.
Malcolm went 13-4-2 last season, and if we're willing to make the mistake of evaluating players by the way they were acquired, we should also consider making the common mistake of evaluating them by their draft position. He's a 1st rounder.

As I've said a few times, it's five games. It's a little early to make major changes to dump players that were decent sized parts of the team last season onto the waiver wire, or make any changes at all, IMO.

I'm surprised Lindberg played 60 games last season. I remember not caring for his play back then, and thought he was scratched a lot more than he was.

Malcolm did go 13-4-2 last season, and that made me hopeful that his horrible pre-season game was a one-off. For some reason, though, he wasn't trusted to spell Flower for a single game in the playoffs. I don't know if he's never fully come back from his injury or what. I do know the team played much better defensively last year than this early season, and that coupled with the better scoring that will surely come around when we're healthy makes goalies look good. I've also seen enough hockey to know that sometimes a good goalie can get prematurely abandoned because of a bad streak, too.

Bringing up Pirri was something I considered they should do, as well.

All he really does well is score goals but we really need those right now. Put him with Eakin and Nosek/ Hyka who can be more defensively responsible than he is for the line and still create some chances he can finish.

Wife told me: "maybe the expansion team just arrived a year late." I had nothing.

These guys will get things rolling offensively, though. Even though it looks like the offense is the issue, it's the full-ice approach and defensive breakdowns that are undermining this team's usual look.

I think scoring would help regardless. We seem to control the play for a good chunk of time and not score, if we did it changes a lot like most of the time, they probably don't come back down the other way and score as they have been doing. Defense definitely needs to be better, but I think capitalizing on our chances helps out massively.

I've been thinking this every time I've read the thread title, but haven't mentioned it because it sounds cutesy. But I can't help myself.....

Vegas needs to score precisely one more goal than their opponents to win each game.

Subban was hurt during the playoffs last year and teams rarely spell their #1 goaltender during the playoffs.
